Sometimes it's just because they don't bloat the song with too long of a chorus or intros and outros. Things that just make it longer for the sake of being long - a lot of songs on BTW are guilty of that. It works better live than having it on EVERY song on an album. That’s because she’s repeating the same words over and over, just monotonous repetition with no variations whatsoever. She could have done something more dynamic with the last chorus.

No track on BTW is longer just because, imo. The longest tracks (The Queen, TEOG, Hair, and You and I) are some of her best compositions, musically speaking, Gaga allowed the instrumentation and vocal improvisation to truly shine in those, but those moments are rare in her music. One of her shortest tracks, Perfect Illusion, could have benefited from that.

Mary Jane Holland is even more of a stand-out track with the commentary on ****ography as an intro.

I prefer this over the album version too:

It’s just a few seconds more, but they add to it.

It all comes down to preference, but there’s an incentive to create shorter songs to garner as many streams as possible and maximize airplay on the radio. And just like many other pop stars, I think Gaga likes to take part in that.

   I don't disagree entirely. But a lot of of songs on Born This Way have roughly 30 second intros and then 30 second outros - some much longer. Ones that could be cut and you wouldn't lose much of the song. I personally LOVE extended songs - that being said an extended version can always be made by fans from stems or instrumentals that leak - or they can come officially in music videos and tour versions. Every song doesn't need to have an extended final chorus, or a lengthy intro/outro to be a good song. A lot of people seem to be equating that having a song be longer somehow makes it better, when actually sometimes it may just make it longer - not better, not worse - just longer.

The thing is most albums had songs around 3 minutes for decades for vinyl and cassette formats - then CDs and digital releases came and that caused a lot of artists to make songs that were 4-6 minutes long because the space was no longer a limitation. With streaming now it has gone to show that 3 minute songs tend to do better - plus there has been a sort of resurgence of analog formats that favor shorter song length. So seeing short songs on the album isn't bad at all in terms of indication of quality.
