Amazon VP RESIGNS In Protest

A vice-president at Amazon has quit "in dismay" at the internet giant's crackdown on workers who criticised it over coronavirus safety measures.

Tim Bray described the firing of protesters as "evidence of a vein of toxicity running through the company culture".

Workers have criticised Amazon for not doing enough to protect warehouse staff against the virus.

Amazon declined to comment, but has previously defended its actions.

Mr Bray said Amazon also fired office staff who had been organising another protest and had spoken out against the company on climate issues.

"At that point, I snapped," he wrote, adding that he raised his concerns internally first.

"That done, remaining an Amazon [vice-president] would have meant, in effect, signing off on actions I despised. So I resigned," he wrote.

Mr Bray said working at the firm had been "rewarding fun" and his decision would cost him financially.

"What with big-tech salaries and share vestings, this will probably cost me over a million (pre-tax) dollars, not to mention the best job I've ever had, working with awfully good people. So I'm pretty blue," he wrote.

FlopSlurper

Amazon has been under backlash long before the virus and it's so sad how they haven't changed their practices even when actually needed to. This is also one of the reasons why I dislike haus labs.

Good for him I suppose, doubt anything will come of it tho - Amazon has consistently treated its warehouse employees like garbage, and apparently they're pretty good at shutting people who attempt to fight back down :madge:

It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

We have one here in Delaware where complaints like that were common to hear about. It’s pretty disgusting. I remember someone I know who used to work there telling me they got their hours cut because they didn’t want to pay them full time so they ensured they stayed at a part-time level...just because. Crazy because Amazon has made a ton of money courtesy of COVID-19.

AMZ is such a bad company honestly. From fake, counterfeit products to this.

So he’d rather up and quit and let amazon replace him with someone willing to carry out these violations other than using his position and platform in the company to bring change? sounds like martyrdom to me

I know. They are often the cheapest, they're quick and their customer service is really good. So it's conflicting buying there, knowing how they treat their workers like **** and how rich Bezos is.
