I don't have an AMC chain near me, we love our indie theaters:oops:. This seems like a knee-jerk reaction tbh, I'm sure they'll figure something out

I don't understand their problem?

For many couples with kids I honestly think that renting at home is more convenient and cheaper than going to the cinema.

For me, I like to go to the cinema, but sometimes some movies are dubbed without the original versions, so to rent them at home is a very good solutions for me.

So..

girl why dont we have both GIF

Literally 0 braincells have been found. I love to go to the cinema but if they think them not showing those movies will stop people watching them elsewhere they really are dumb :air:

I mean that was an a$$ move from Universal but this is ridiculous. This is a revolution they can not win, not in 2020

I read a report a few weeks ago how AMC was approaching bankruptcy, now they’re refusing to play two of the most anticipated horror movies of the year? This would blow for. Halloween Kills as it will not be sent to VOD. I was watching a YouTube video by the someone who is essentially an “insider” for Blumhouse and they’re already considering pushing back the next two movies by a year unfortunately.

This isn't good for either party. One thing is releasing a family film to entertain children during a pandemic, a very different case is releasing Jurassic World or the Fast franchise straight to VOD, leaving a lot of money behind. AMC is right to get angry. This is basically accelerating the demise of the movie theater experience.

I am having trouble understanding their logic. If people want to see the movie they will see it wether universal releases it in theaters or on demand. If AMC is throwing a fit over on demand and bans it they are only hurting themselves because people will still rent the movie or see it somewhere else.

It's all about the theatrical window. In recent years theaters have seen the theatrical window shorten as studios launch their streaming services and drive business online. AMC's move is trying to force Universal to respect that window and allow them to make some profit. Otherwise, they'll have to compete with VOD since day one of release.

Considering ticket prices, movie theaters simply won't survive if all studios start moving towards a day and day release for their films.

It's not good for studios either. Not having theaters running their films might be the difference between Jurassic World making a 500 million profit in theaters + VOD, vs making a 300 million profit in VOD alone.

lol okay then, good luck. We'll see how long they think their already dying brands can survive without showing films from one of the biggest studios in the world.
