The Last Of Us 2 leak controversy and the homophobia it awoke

Is anyone up to date regarding this situation?

Long story short, pretty much the whole plot leaked, and people are not happy, fans everywhere are extremely mad at it. The problem is that theres a big LGBT link in there that is making a lot of people bring out their inner homophobia and transphobia. I normally would avoid spoilers for myself, but after seeing the reaction I just couldnt resist, and I must say, Im not buying the game anymore even on sale...

Neil Druckmann (the director of the game) posted this on his Instagram

He also replied to someone who said he would rather eat sh!t than pay for the game, by saying "No judgment on your fetish. You do you!"

Good point I shouldve made more clear.

I think the leaks are terrible and make the game awful, but not because of the lgbt related stuff.

Fans on different places, are upset for the leaks too, but theres a bunch that add the lgbt stuff into that hate pretty much blaming everything on it.

I have no clue what happened recently, but the homophobic comments have started ever since the first trailer appeared and there was talk about queer characters. The gaming community is full of homophobic trash cans so I'm not really surprised tbh. I'm glad that games are starting to include more diverse characters and stronger female leads tbh, but yeah homophobes will always lose their sh*t over it and i love to see it.

Also, I'm not sure if true but I read somewhere that the leak happened because the company refused to give employees part of their post-release bonus (which is in itself a very shitty system because it depends on how much the game sells) and so one employee leaked it as revenge. I genuinely don't know how accurate it is, but if it is real they deserve the leaks. 

Edit: i just saw that Sony said that the leaker is not from within the company with headlines saying its not an "angry employee" which makes me think it actually is an employee

It's not really the homophobia that makes this a scandal, we already know the main protagonist is LGBTQ+ since forever. The story is that Naughty Dog fell behind schedule and start rushing employees in very bad working hours and conditions, so one of them decided to leak the whole thing in protest.

this isnt compleeetely on topic but i have a weird relationship with gay characters of any form in tv and gaming media. i never find them realistic. like if i take emily from pretty little liars for example. the second a character is gay all minor characters of the same sex are aswell. she met so many gay girls in that small town that its not even funny anymore and it completely consumed her character imo. and im sitting here on my gay ass barely ever meeting other gay men in my normal life. just had to get this out of

I don't know the contents of the leak but it's not new that Ellie likes girls. It was the case in the DLC of the first game, then we had a first teaser of this game one or two years ago where she was kissing a girl, but somehow everytime people act like it came out of nowhere.

If this is because a certain character is dying, well it was pretty obvious, it was gonna happen at some point

About Ellie, the argument is not just that she is gay, but that people say that they rub it in your face too much and go to far for it

But thats not the only thing raising homophobia here.... cant say more
