No new domestic cases of Covid-19 in South Korea

South Korea has reported no new domestic coronavirus cases for the first time since February, the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said.

The KCDC reported four new infections, all imported cases, taking the national tally to 10,765. The death toll rose by one to 247, while 9,059 have been discharged.

Of the total, 1,065 were imported cases, where more than 90% were Koreans, according to a KCDC statement.

South Korea’s caseload has been slowing in recent weeks after it recorded hundreds of new cases every day between late February and early March. The government has subsequently relaxed some of its social distancing guidelines. It expected to ease up on more restrictions in coming days if its caseload maintains a decline.

I read North Korea as South Korea and saw this comment and I was like

I mean is this REALLY a model country ? Sure they’ve done exceedingly well with this handing off COVID (see how still no one praises Taiwan) but only because they implemented a tracking system that traced people credit card use and phone GPS tracked their contracts using that application and then would alert locals USING their name , that they were infected. An application was available for the public that could then trace your location and it authorities saw you left your quarantine you were fined. Works well and all but that is some Orwellian mess that I never want to have to deal with. You think the Korean government is going to terminate that program once the pandemic is over ? No. Let’s all take a moment to think about how 9/11 was the perfect excuse to wiretap all American civilians in the name of protecting against terrorism. Expect more civil liberties to be stepped on in the name of safety and health.

Yeah considering the US government absolutely could get every piece of data on us if they wanted to (if they haven't already), I would much rather them put it to good use than DIE OF CORONAVIRUS?! WTF?

I dont mind them tracking where I am if it is for my own health + to warn others if I get it but thats a choice everyone makes on their own I guess

Considering the statistics that have been coming out your odds of dying are most certainly if you’re over 70 and have a comorbidity or happen to be obese or have a heart condition ? Do you have either ? 

The only way that effort works is if you have a country with a V E R Y low infection rate and you had also been testing non-symptomatic cases from the get go. It’s evident only small isolated nations had that capacity and it’s evident that context tracing only works in a relatively small area with low infection rates - Good luck trying to implement that in NYC or in the vast expanse of the United States

Well that’s how racism starts - it begins with convincing the public its for their own well-being but usually when a federal government begins to interfere it has the opposite effect. That’s the same excuse used for the patriot act and the NSA program - it was to prevent terrorism and make our borders far safer - instead it’s been used to rip our privacy
