ChicaSkas 23,355
Yes. I hung out with Paul right before she dumped the song, in Sept 2018. In fact you can still read it on this site, gagadaily.com/djws He told me how it happened , kind of in a whirlwind like situation, like he sent the track over, RKelly liked it, and sent it back with his vocals. It was Paul’s favorite song on ARTPOP at that time before Gaga erased it from her catalogue. Do YOU own the 4' by 6' Perfect Illusion promo Poster? Will pay you for it. ImMatt 1,846
It's an interesting viewpoint and I agree a lot with what you say. Side point about DWUW (as much as I love R K*lly's verse) I heard Billboard music editor Jason Lipshutz say a while back on a podcast that had Gaga chosen someone like Miguel to be on the song instead, it could easily have been one of the biggest songs of her career. Guest
I'm not gonna stop listening to the song because R. Kelly is disgusting. It's a good song and way better than the version with Christina Aguilera. I'm also not going to feel guilty over it.

Of course I'm not disagreeing with the choice to openly decry R. Kelly -- that should've been done earlier imo, but I think she would still stand by her choices in it, rightfully so as a survivor of sexual assault herself. I think Gaga totally regrets it. That song is a bit like a stain on her discography because it's a reminder of one of the worst times in her life. She had no choice but to confront her trauma back then and it took her to some dark places. She's not in that dark place anymore and she probably really regrets ever working with R Kelly. That was a huge lapse in judgement on her part.

It’s like I’ll still laugh at Bill Cosby records even though I know he’s a pervert. He was also very talented. So I just usually skip them over now a days, but from time to time I fondly remember his monologues. It’s a personal decision each person must make. The number one problem all of these offenders had is they didn’t come clean , they didn’t atone or make up for what they did. They kept denying the obvious: if they had atoned, or basically donated their fortunes away in remorse, or done something concrete to acknowledge the women — major apologies, major remorse, and major admittance —- then history would go lighter on them. Now that’s impossible. Do YOU own the 4' by 6' Perfect Illusion promo Poster? Will pay you for it. Pic: http://i.imgur.com/UWuzumk

Now that’s impossible. I was never too big of a fan of The Cosby Show, but I did watch Roseanne as pretty much my life bible and even though what she did was not as severe as Bill Cosby and R. Kelly (which I don't agree she needed to be cancelled over - comedians make way worse jokes than that, despite whatever racism it was fueled by) and I'm not gonna stop watching it because someone involved in it did something bad. I feel the same about Do What U Want. I mean it's fair that some people think the Christina version is better, but I know a lot of the fanbase are blowing smoke when they say it as well because people love to appear woke and politically correct in stan culture. Sort of like how they feel the need to censor Gypsy.
DavidLuis198 1,187
The whole lyrics of the song probably were written when she was not good, is a great song, but after all the polemic with rape and sexual abuse of her collaborators and her own experience with it, it does not make much sense. We have a woman who been sexually assaulted saying "do what you want with my body, you can have my body but not my mind", it can be ready as owning yourself and moving on from the trauma, but it could also has a bad connotation cause she's kind of saying that you can do whatever with her body and it does not matter... So, it's a polemic song, and I understand why she would rather pull out of the album, even more today when she's all about healing herself and others and kindness. I still love the song, the R. Kelly version unfortunately is really good (even though I don't like his lyrics), and she could've release her solo version, but, the past is the past I don't know how to write in english

Paul had contacts that could get in touch with him, Gaga, Paul and Tara regarded him as the king of R&B so they wanted a “legend” on the track. Obviously the song is about the media and them body shaming her, and Gaga and Tara obviously didn’t believe he was a sexual predator- Gaga has implied this when talking about the song back when the album came out. Terry was her longtime friend and they were working together all the time during late TFM and the Born This Way era, from what we know the video was never fully edited up; the footage TMZ got was predominantly from the Behind the Scenes 4K package that she was doing in collaboration with BitTorrent. i have my own theory about the video based on what we’ve seen; the video was supposed to be about realty vs fantasy, the video started off with over sexualised imagery of her in full makeup, glamorous and sexy while she was in hospital with R Kelly, working out etc and would be about how the media perceived her to be during the BTWB and afterwards after she was recovering from her hip injury, then the video would transition into the reality of her vomiting backstage, unable to walk from her hip injury, in her wheelchair and more spliced in between footage of her with her flannel, no makeup etc with R Kelly as the “real” woman. The videos scenarios of her in her blonde wig, the newspaper dress, makeup etc acting overly sexual were clearly meant to be a parody and sarcasm imo. That would have been gaga's rawest and coolest music video ever but whithout R Kelly of course
