It took some time for me to grow to appreciate it, sonically, especially songs like Donatella and Mary Jane Holland, which are indeed bops, but aren't really the quality songs lyrically I grew to expect. I know Hair and Bad Kids have the same lyrical immaturity, but as a whole I felt the rest of the album was a more solid representation of her lyrical ability and musical genius than ARTPOP was. Especially with the changes to Swine from after the iTunes festival. But my point in this is to say that after The Fame Monster and Born This Way, ARTPOP being named Lady Gaga would have been disappointing because to me a self titled album is going to mentally check itself as a magnum opus.
