Facebook Says Paid Livestream Shows Are Coming Soon

Facebook is making changes to its livestream platform to allow artists to monetize their performances.

Other changes to Facebook Live include the return of Live With, allowing co-hosts to join. These live streams can also be integrated into online-only event pages. Despite the changes, we don’t know how the Facebook Live payment system will work or what commission rates will be.

The limitations on other streaming platforms leave Facebook Live open to widespread adoption.

That’s if the commission rates are acceptable. Currently, donation links are live on streams that benefit non-profit groups. Facebook says it will announce more details about its stream monetization plan later.

The one thing I will say about this shut down is how incredible it is to see so many people come "together" and do these things. Even though this is just Facebook capitalizing on the virus, nothing new here..it's at least another platform. Some of my favorite actors/musicians have gotten together for reunions/live streams etc and it's been a good distraction.

Yes! Parks & Recreation has an upcoming reunion, and I'm so excited. And I've been enjoying watching performances on YouTube, IG, Twitter.....The original Hamilton cast came together to surprise a little girl, and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Weber were having piano-offs on Twitter. It's been fun! I've also been watching events via Zoom that normally I wouldn't be able to see because they otherwise would've been held in person in far-off locations.

However, I'm probably not paying FB for anything.

I nearly threw my laptop when I saw P&R will be having a special!!! :air:   That is going to be so fun. So many good reunions have come from this, that if we weren't in lock down, would never have happened. It feels wholesome to some extent.

I absolutely agree though, I will not be paying for anything. As of now, everything has been free and I'm sure for the vast majorities of "events" it'll stay that way. I don't know how well this will take off.
