The pandemic's effect on Gaga's Grammy chances

I know it's a bit premature to discuss this, but I think it's a very interesting area to talk about.

Not many artists are releasing albums in the upcoming months, and I think it could mean that Gaga will be one of the very few, if not the only, major artists still intent on releasing an album. That just shows the stature of her as an artist tbh, cause not many singers would have the confidence to do well commercially amidst such a time and Gaga obviously won't budge. This could mean that she will be the only person in the spotlight of the music scene, with little to no competition.

If she plays her cards right, mainstream audience craving for new music will only have Chromatica to turn to, and by that time The Weeknd and Dua Lipa's albums will have aged a little, and Chromatica will be there to lift their spirits up.

I'm not saying there won't be any more albums released in the upcoming months, as we know when the pandemic cools down, there's still June, July and August as the Grammy eligibility period, but other than that, that's it. We will have very few albums contending for the 2021 Album of the Year (and other pop and general categories). Rain on Me is also eligible for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

If you look at GoldDerby's prediction for Album of the Year, The Weeknd and Dua Lipa are at #1 and #2, and that's because they have released their albums to critical acclaim. Other artists within the top 10 include Post Malone, Childish Gambino, Harry Styles, Roddy Rich. Major releases like Bieber's Changes and Eminem's MTBMB have also received lukewarm reviews. Gaga is at #9 without even releasing her album, she could crawl up further easily if her album is acclaimed.

Do you think this could be the chance for Gaga to dominate the Grammys? I believe The Weeknd is a threat, but hey, Gaga hasn't thrown all of her cards at us, we knows what she'll be revealing to us?

Months on, FN still sounds really fresh. I think that if the summer single(s) do well or have good videos, it’ll just shine even brighter than Chromatica for AOTY, sorry to say it  

The Weeknd will win SOTY and Dua will probably win ROTY for DSN 

that’s if no one else “important” releases

Future Nostalgia is bop from start to end (apart from Good in Bed) and I think it will get a lot of Grammy love.

But if you ask me who has a better chance of actually taking that trophy home, I think Chromatica will, and then of course there's The Weeknd. FN is praised for its catchiness and revival of dance music but it's still pretty formulaic if you look at it.

There's nothing wrong with serving catchy dance music, it's just the Grammys usually reward albums with a little bit of experimentation.

I'm sure other people will release some stuff later as well. but looking at it she really does have a change to finally win one of the main 4. and if she doesn't, then the grammys clearly don't want her to win. 

and let's not forget she didn't say a thing when she won last time, so maybe she'll boycott and not submit? it's an interesting topic that's for sure, but we can't know anything about it rn. for all we know the grammys could be cancelled next year

I think the Grammy race is tight with or without the pandemic. It’s going to have to be AMAZING to get an AOTY nom honestly. I think SL will get Record of the year nom unless she puts out another solo single after ROM & before the eligibility period ends. It’s rare for a non-single to get nominated for ROTY/SOTY. NFR was an anomaly honestly

It cheapens it all, to me at least. Im still disappointed about the ASIB AOTY snub when it was never guaranteed and probably ridiculous to expect, in hindsight. But we all acted like it was coming and I still feel that disappointment. Doesn't it feel like Gags, and us, can just be done with all of that now? She's proved herself many times over already.

I have a feeling that Chromatica will be nominated for AOTY tho. They LOVE to snub Gaga for that category. They'll probably give it to The Weeknd or something.

I love it when she gets acknowledged. But the Grammy’s don’t mean that much to me, since there are artist with 24 of them. Who’s bodies of work haven’t been up to par with Grammy standards.
