I know the thread is relatively long, but it's kind of frustrating to be grouped in with people who aren't contributing anything of value. You can disagree with my view of course, but there's nothing abrasive or irrational about what I've said. 

I just tried to articulate why I felt that Gaga isn't so enthusiastic right now, which is a view I know many fans hold at the moment. I didn't intend to stir the pot or irritate anyone. I really just wanted to contribute to the Gaga discussion and maybe engage with opinions that differ to mine in the replies. 

Anyway, I think this is the last I'll say for now. Longer form content really doesn't go down well here anymore, does it? I guess that's the outcome of clickbait culture and short attention spans.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I truly feel like the album release was pushed ahead by Stupid Love leaking, I think she probably would’ve liked to have worked on the album a bit longer than she did but it is what it is

When will fans understand that Gaga is a commercial artist and will do what is needed (be it a pop album, selling perfumes, vegas residency or a make up line).

There's something to say for both sides of this.

Making music is her passion but it's also her job. And not her only job.

I still believe she is very passionate about everything, but at the same time I think the OP has some truth to it. It's a hard job living up to all these expectations. Plus having to plan your whole life so far ahead in great detail is not easy. I'm her age and I would totally understand her wanting to make some changes in her life. Look at Beyonce or Adele, its admirable. She will always be her rebellious popstar self, I'm sure of that and I can't wait to hear Chromatica.

I remembered Gaga's talk to say "No" on things that you dont like to do, that doesn't feel "you". So i think with this era, she was not pressured to go for it. She was just pressured with the leaks and the pandemic. But i agree with one thing, after this album, it will take a looong time before she dances again.

Now, I'm not saying that Gaga hasn't or didn't enjoy 'returning to pop music' - but I do believe that she felt that she *had* to do it, and has been intimidated by the pressure and expectation she feels from fans and possibly from her record label, too. In fact, Gaga has said as much herself, though in a less direct way:

See interview where she explains that she didn't 'feel like' making music, and that she was 'obsessed' with and 'worried' about 'what to do next'. Also:

 

 When you add all of that pressure to 1) the constant leaks and 2) the COVID-19 pandemic, I think it's understandable (however disappointing) that she doesn't feel the hype, or at least doesn't want to share that hype, in the same way she has before for previous albums. 

The leaks, to an extent, kind of undercut her reason for making this album - which was, imo, to please her fans - since she hasn't been able to announce any of the news herself directly to us. Not the lead single, not the album cover, not the track list, not the duets - not a single piece of information, aside from a released date that was later postponed. 

Meanwhile, the global situation right now has most likely shifted Gaga's mind from 'fan service' to a desire to use her platform for tangible change - not just to please 'her little monsters' again. 

I see it as a similar change in direction to what happened when Bowie died. We know she was essentially ready to go with LG5 before scrapping it after his death, in part, reminded her of her own mortality and unleashed a desire to make music that would transcend expectation. 

The difference now, of course, is that Chromatica was already announced and finalised *before* this sudden shift.

As a result, we're now in a situation where Gaga has to continue releasing this album, despite probably not wanting to right now.

And let's not forget, lockdown (and the year long social isolation that will follow) precludes her ability to present this album in the way she wanted to - which, all reports suggest, was intended to be in a very 'old-school Gaga' way that would deliver on fan expectation. 

When you take all of that away, Chromatica - as an era - is both suddenly impossible to roll-out in the way it was created to be, and simultaneously unfit for the times as it has clashed with a global pandemic that only further reminds Gaga as to why she hasn't wanted to release an album like this in so long - because it feels empty, unimportant, regressive, ect, ect. 

In summary then, Chromatica was for the fans but now it can't be - at least, not in the way she envisioned. And, now, as a result, Gaga is most likely releasing this album because she 'has to' not because she really, truly wants to - and that's most likely why she is expressing such little enthusiasm for this era. It's also why, I'd guess, she won't release another pop album for a very, very long time.

This is one the smartest observations I’ve read in a long time. Even with the gross generalization of what her “original fans” want.

I don’t think it’s because she feels any different about the album it’s becuase she’s sad about what’s going on in the world with Covid-19. She sticks to what she believes in and her artistry and she wouldn’t put out a record if she didn’t like it or for the sake of putting out music just to shut everyone up..

Only this fan base would accost her for being quiet during a pandemic and what’s likely to be a global recession.

GaGa suffers from depression and for us with depression and anxiety this is not AT ALL an easy time. From seeing the virus ravage through the globe, seeing economies experience market shrinkages, seeing people losing their jobs, hospitals empty wherein even medical staff is being laid off, Americans on food lines, being afraid of finding out more fearful facts of the virus, and really biting our nails when thinking about successes of antiviral and vaccine trials — it’s not a fun time and I don’t think it’s one that many people would want to use to focus on marketing an album. I have barely even listening to music during this period. 
 

But let’s also think that GaGa might be on calls daily figuring out a way to bring this era to life despite the current restrictions. And let’s see what new developments unfold as we see the gradual reopenings of portions of the globe and the United States (Hell Sweden didn’t even lockdown) and it’s likely that there can exceptions for filming performances or photography sessions 

idk I’m ranting and a little tipsy whatever lol..point is let’s not think GaGa is over the era and is doing this rollout because she has to. She’s likely mentally affected by the greatest tragedy of modern history and / or putting together what she can with her team daily
