Biden says he thinks Trump will try to delay the presidential election

Former Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday he believes President Donald Trump will try to delay November's presidential election. 

"Mark my words: I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can't be held," Biden said at a virtual fundraiser, according to a pool report. Biden has maintained the November election should not be postponed and has previously made similar comments.

Trump cannot unilaterally change the date of the election in November, as it has been set into law by federal statute and Congress would have to OK such a move. However, that has not stopped some Democrats from worrying that he will try to do so, and voters had asked the previously large field of Democratic presidential candidates if they had concerns that Trump would try to delay the election or refuse to leave office if he were defeated in November.

"Those are the incoherent, conspiracy theory ramblings of a lost candidate who is out of touch with reality," Tim Murtaugh, communications director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement Friday. "President Trump has been clear that the election will happen on November 3rd."

Not Biden coming in with the hysteria. This is very unlikely. At worst, let’s say the virus is rampant... we’d vote by mail. States have already began preparing for this. 

I think what could happen is that if he loses he will say it was election fraud and he will push back on stepping down.

He actually can delay the election, but congres must votes on it. If Trump delays it anyway, Nancy Pelosi would be president till an election is heald.

He can technicly delay the election. His term will however still end in 2021 and due to succesion accord in the constitution the speaker of the house (Pelosi) will become commander in chief so no way he delaying that.

Didn't they say vote by mail would work in Trump's favour or something? I saw some article not long ago how Trump was pushing for that

Something I'd like to point out is that Trump wants this to happen. At this point he is having the treasury secretary refuse to send funds that were directed by congress to keep the USPS open which would cause the service to collapse and more than likely be privatized. This absolutely cannot be allowed to happen, especially before the 2020 election where vote in mail will more than likely be a vital component.
