Toxic was a solo single not a feat. and in the zone sold 20M album I doubt that Chromatica will have the same success in this era

Sure but you can‘t even compare the sales from 2004 to 2020, I meant the impact in general

I think Telephone was the “Gaga” equivalent to MATM.

Gaga was in her peak and still a new artist during TFM, and Beyoncé was already a HUGE star.....

The thing is that Me Against The Music wasn’t that big of a hit considering the two giant superstars involved.

True! I've always been shocked by its underperformance considering Madonna and Britney were so huge at this time.
But Britney was banned from the radio until Toxic, so that can explain a bit of it

I’m not sure if I’m right, but wasn’t this song after Madonna’s American Life controversy? That might also explain the underperformance in the US. I believe Madonna was also blacklisted after that.

Yup it was just a few months after American Life, so I guess the single was bound to flop in a way

People had extremely huge expectations, specially after the VMA's kiss. The video was nothing special considering its Britney and Madonna, and they repeated themselves with the kiss.

Britney's first singles were always huge pop songs like Oops and Baby, so releasing Toxic would have been a better choice to start the era. If Madonna was not featured on the song, it wouldnt even be a single.

I remember watching the video premiere on MTV and being underwhelmed by both the song and video. Today though, its my all time favorite song and video by Britney.

Imagining calling MATM a fad song and forgettable, you don't know what you're saying.

It's one of the last legendary collaborations, aside of Lady Marmalade.

Do you've any receipts to claim it isn't a fad?  I would love to know its streaming stats.Cuz, Iconic collabs like Lady Marmalade & Telephone has great streaming numbers.what about MATM?
