COVID-19 causing strokes in young adults

The novel coronavirus appears to be causing sudden strokes in adults in their 30s and 40s who are not otherwise terribly ill, doctors reported Wednesday.

There’s growing evidence that Covid-19 infection can cause the blood to clot unnaturally, and stroke would be an expected consequence of that.

Dr. Thomas Oxley, a neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai Health System in New York, and colleagues gave details of five people they treated. All were under the age of 50, and all had either mild symptoms of Covid-19 infection or no symptoms at all.

“The virus seems to be causing increased clotting in the large arteries, leading to severe stroke,” Oxley told CNN.

Wtf kinda “science” is this. 5 people had a stroke, all were under 50, and all tested positive for covid19.

while the strokes may have been caused by the virus, the first year bio student in me would be upset if i didn’t mention “correlation doesn’t mean causation”.

How do all these "new symptoms" pop up and NOT mean the virus has mutated???

The study they cited for blood clots  is this one

“Reports on the incidence of thrombotic complications are however not available.”

The science isn’t totally there yet, but CNN is running with it anyway.

Currently it feels like someone is playing the game 'Plague Inc.' and is randomly mutating the virus with new symptoms :enigma:

the strokes could’ve been due to other factors that weren’t virus mediated. and at any rate, just because you may have a slightly different course of an illness doesn’t mean that the virus (or any illness ) itself has mutated, we’re all different ourselves.

And apparently it has already mutated into THIRTY different strains already :saladga::fthis::triggered:

Mister G

COVID-19 said she’s here to prove how random she can be. Everyday there’s something new with this mess. Getting kinda hard to stay motivated with all the problems this is creating from a health perspective...

This is not just a simple respiratory virus. It can cause damage to every system we have.

I also know someone who died and tested positive for coronavirus afterwards.

This is crazy theory but I wonder if there can be a correlation between the new lack of mobility caused by the lockdown (especially for people living in big cities) and these strokes. Lack of mobility can cause blood clots and blood clots can lead to strokes.
