I actually listen to more music now, because I have nothing else to do. I have listened to Madonna's entire discography the last few days. Plus I have listened to a lot of artists that I usually never listen to, such as Fiona Apple and Dua Lipa.

I need relisten whole fiona but it needs a certain mood. Im gonna need to cry, feel exhalerated, strangely sensual and wild and moody

I think all that is still happening but the lack of gym goers and travelling have caused it to take a hit :poot:

In my usual daily life I listen to music when on train - which is about 2 hours per day. Now I only listen to music when doing a half an hour workout or do chores and maybe listen to one or two new songs... so my streaming time at the moment is at ~25% of what it was before.

Music is more social than you think. I never understood the argument that streaming would bolster during quarantine. Most people listen to music with other people, in parties, at the nightclub, on the way to work, etc.

I've barely listened to music because I've been so busy participating in video calls and working independently.

Less commuting. It’s that simple. Less people in cars, buses, trains, airplanes who listen to music to distract themselves.

At home, people are streaming movies and TV shows, so even less time to listen to music.

I personally often listen to music on its own because I’m a music lover. Others just listen to music as a distraction.

Yeah, music usually accompanies you during activities, not everyone likes laying down in a couch listening to music while looking at the ceiling.

I do

It makes me sad that most people only use music as a background activity :messga: there is nothing better than smoking a j*int and listening to an album front to back whilst starting at a wall lmao :vegas:

Eh it can be both. I’ll work out to an album because I can’t just sit and listen to it. Maybe it makes me *want* to move (like a lot of Gaga’s discography) so I’ll exercise with music. Some music is sitting music, but some you just want to move to and that’s fine. Doesn’t necessarily make it background just that it’s a part of a specific type of activity for you and if you’re not doing that activity then no music either because the way you listen to it isn’t accessible to you.

I have so many physical albums at home or digital albums on my external hard drives, why would I use up the bandwidth if I don't have to? Streaming comes in handy when you're on the move. I can stream home too but not as much. I save data for streaming movies or internet usage. How is everyone's data service?

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

Lockdown has forced the “real” us to come out of hiding. We used to stream lots of crappy music because we were in artificial environments (bars, gyms, stores) surrounded by crap people, trying to impress crap people. We did it to virtue signal :cryga:

No more need to be fake anymore. Let’s face it, streaming was invented for phoneys, by phoneys :messga:

Edgy take, but true :ladyhaha: This is supported by another article I read that said everyone is listening to old music now. We're all letting our true lame selves out. We don't need new music every week/month, just our All Time Top 10 lists :ladyhaha:

Good point, no one else seems to have considered that. Perhaps because a lot of us are working from home, we're avoiding using up wifi bandwidth or mobile data on streaming. Or unemployed/reduced-hour people are changing their data plans to something more affordable

The gym is another major source of streams id say

Every single person is with their earphones the whole time
