I just finished listening and wow!!

Actually really enjoyed the album. I've known about her for years but never listened to anything apart from Tidal (the only CD of hers my dad owned)

Newspaper is deffo my favourite. I love how as the song progresses her vocals get more raspy and powerful. It's such a good song.

But ya'll like Kate Bush, too?---yes gawd!

This year is excellent for music -- especially with Alanis' new record o the horizon too :diane:

I recently really got into Kate Bush and Hounds of Love remains one of the best albums ever made.

Hey guys! I had NEVER heard of this artist and I tried to dive into this new album but I don't get why it is excellent or amazing? This is absolutely not the kind of music I listen to and there is absolutely no offense, I'm willing to discover more about her.
But could y'all explain to me why you like her so much? Maybe I'm just too young to get into it but I'm really curious and don't really understand why I don't like it as much as a lot of you guys

It's alright not to like an album. I guess it's not for everyone maybe, or it's just not your taste. I really find it genius. The lyrics are phenomenal, and her vocals are beautiful. And the production is sooo unique and well-made; it gives the album a great atmosphere throughout.

Maybe you’re just too young to get I to it. I think it would help if you were familiar with a little more of disography and what to expect from her. She comes from an era where real artists used real music, meaningful lyrics and real instrumentation in their songs. I think most In the younger generations won’t get it- not all, but most. They haven’t been exposed to quality and don’t understand it.

That's a very superior way to look at things tbh. I don't thing anyone is "too young" to get into any sort of music. It all depends on what they enjoy and what they don't and this does not mean they don't understand it. I myself am 22yo and I enjoy it thoroughly, and my friends who are also around my age have all been obsessed with it. It's a matter of preference after all.

Also, "real" artists who make "real" music have always existed and they always will, whether yesterday, today, or tomorrow. I hate this notion of contemporary music being inferior. There has always been generic music that is not as artistically complex as others, and this doesn't mean that it's not real music, nor does it mean that there aren't artists who aren't making more unique and creative projects.

The only issue I have with your retort- real music with real vocals, instrumentation, etc was actually in the mainstream in the 90s- therefore more people had access to it. Now you have to sift through indie albums and such because mainstream music is mostly done with keyboards and drum machines- written to make money. Meaning younger generations have less access or knowledge of artists and singer songwriters who make albums organically like Fiona, etc.

Just listened to it, my first time listening to a Fiona Apple album. I knew it would likely be highly pretentious but wow, this is one of the most pretentious albums I've ever heard. She's basically talking throughout and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Why the critics are praising her vocals are beyond me. While she talks about the noble cause of feminism, she puts it down in such an abrasive way. One of my biggest pet peeves with music is when artists seem to want to put music down in the least palatable way possible. For Her, for example, would've been a great track, had it not been sung in the way it was. If you want us to be enthralled by your lyrics, putting them down in a way that isn't an ear-splitting racket is a good start. And of course, critics praise it because they love praising anything that's even remotely different. A 100/100 on MC is truly laughable. Nick Cave's Ghosteen temporarily had this score for a few weeks last year too. It wasn't a perfect album to my mind either but at least that had the most gorgeous production values and was made to be a nice experience on the ears. To think it's been overtaken by this chaotic mess is a real shame.

Trust me, you don't have to be too young to enjoy music like this. I'm 30 and still haven't found the amazing nature of music like this. There's nothing wrong with liking unpretentious music that was meant to be an enjoyable sonic experience.

I'm 30 and listened to lots of music like this but it simply doesn't do it for me. And I do amateur music reviews, listen to all kinds of music constantly and am a very harsh critic. There is much better quality than this out there but it just won't get the critical praise as professional critics only seem to like the most bizarre kinds of un-listenable music these days and they're all sheep who follow each other anyway.
