Tbf longevity of humans has increased with time so yeah some person in Japan that died in the 90's might've been 123, but the maximum age humans can live to is 126

Yes but the average longevity does not alter the maximum potential as much

Premature deaths from medical complications we before could not fix and child mortality significantly skewed the averages. When we say people used to die at 40 and 50 it doesn't mean that's where the average adult actually lived to or that many didn't live much longer

Anyone that had an above average priveledged life that didn't have to work as hard and wear out their body, and I'd they were lucky to genetically not be predisposed to specific ailments that require medical intervention could still have lived very long life spans

The idea that 200 years ago hardly anyone lived to 70 or 80 is actually a myth. While the percentage that made it there was indeed considerably lower than today, it wasn't as rare as some people perceive. The average life expectancies of different eras were very affected by early premature deaths as I said that warped the numbers

There are many stories of people in modern times that rarely if ever went to doctors that lived past 100... In the past people could of lived past 100 too if they were lucky to avoid health issues or poor environmental conditions

The percentage of people dying of actual old age and not premature deaths would have been much lower in the past but there's no way to know how many individuals could have reached extreme longevity too

There are also modern claims of people who lived past 122 but did not have documentation that could prove it and even many from Jeanne Calmantes time did not

While most claims are probably fake... There's no way to know for certain that all of them are

So back to my point, she's the oldest "verified". There could have possibly been even older ones we don't know about or can't prove

She was also able to walk until 114 :lolly:

She was in a movie at that same age too

This is actually incredible because the oldest person on earth is usually between 114 to 116 and the odds of surviving 1 more year after that are very low every year

So living another 6 years past 116 is insane

Wasnt there a scandal though & that she lied about her age and took her sister's birth certificate instead of hers? :oprah:

Althought she wasn't a heavy smoker but yeah still insane

Although how much smoking shortens ur life span will very significantly depending on what ur genetically predisposed to

If ur lucky to avoid health complications like lung cancer (or another cancer) or COPD for example... It won't actually affect ur lifespan that much

And whatever impact it has on ageing could be offset by its stress relieving effects (stress also impacts ageing)

So for those who say she would have lived even longer without smoking, we don't really know that

Off topic but it's also why I hate averages like when they say that for every cigarette you loose 10 minutes off your life etc and it's such misleading bullsh*t

You can literally get cancer because of it and die at 40 and get ur life span cut in half, or u could be lucky to not get any effects from it and live to like 90

The impacts vary too much on a case by case basis to say what impact it has on longevity

YES! Some people genuinely aren't affected by smoking and live to be 95, of course they're a minority but still

The claim is that it was her mother's not her sisters

There was some evidence he found pointing to that but there was just as much evidence to refute it

In the end after investigation they found no reason to discredit her record and the one that made the accusation never proved his case

But to this day I lowkey still wonder

Given how abnormal a lifespan of 122 is and the odds of making it there, if there is a theory with at least some evidence to show an identity swap may have occured I think it's only reasonable to at least acknowledge it may have occured

But again, officially, she was never discredited

Yeah. I certainly wasn't implying that smoking is harmless. It's very dangerous

I was just pointing out that their effects on health (and lifespan) will vary significantly from individual to individual depending on how your biology reacts to tabbaco and smoking

So when I hear about people who lived unusually long life spans and people say "imagine how long he/she would have lived if they didn't smoke".

In many cases the answer is probably roughly the same amount of years :enigma:

Why does the universe exist? Why do we exist?

I have plagued my mind with the question of existence over and over and it's impossible to fathom

Why does anything exist in the first place?

And what fascinating about that question is that it's a valid question no matter what you believe

If your religious and believe in a God... God still had to exist to create the universe

If your agnostic and believe in a higher power... That higher power or intelligence still had to be there to start it all or organize it

If your atheist the question of universe existance is still there too

It's a question that does not discriminate. Literally anyone can wonder about this and none of us can really answer it

Things should not be able to appear out of nothing. So something always had to exist. If our universe truly did have a beggining a larger father/mother universe that gives birth to universes still had to exist. Something had to always exist since always...

And not only is there being no biggining to something hard to conceive... Why it exists like u said is perplexing

It's insane to try and even fathom :duck:
