It’s a great song but not for the radio. People don’t listen and say “this must mean something else”. They just listen to what you give them, if they find it inappropriate they will not play it.

This!

I'll WRECK U right Up...G.U.Y.!!!🌋💥

I just watched the Marry the Night mv. What a masterpiece. I'm so sad the single era ended with MTN :bradley: I'm honestly so blessed that I lived through and experience this era. It truly was a once in a lifetime event

It was supposed to be:

BTW - Judas - TEOG (promo) - Yoü & I - MTN - Scheiße. I believe that was what Gags had in mind.

Hair was only released because TEOG outperformed “just a promo single”, and Scheiße was not released cuz.. well MTN didn’t chart. But she was insistent on having visuals for Scheiße so she did the Fame commercial

The deal with Scheisse was that she'd use it on the Fame video and if it generated buzz they'd allow her to push it as a single

If I recall from stories she shared on LittleMonsters.com, she wanted Marry The Night, Born This Way, The Edge of Glory, and Scheisse in that order. Record label pushed for the title track as the lead single instead. They figured that because Judas had an industrial sound to it courtesy of RedOne that it would smash like Bad Romance; released Easter Weekend 2011 and went downhill from there. Single peaked at #10 on Billboard but fell right after because of the blasphemy accusations. The Edge of Glory was pushed as a bounceback from Judas. Problem was everything was competing with Adele’s 21. Record label then pushed You and I and Marry The Night. She advertised her fans better start learning German to understand the next single. It was supposed to be Scheisse then Heavy Metal Lover next. Marry The Night didn’t go anywhere, so future singles were stopped.

YES! This! That's what I remember too

All I know is Gaga pushed MTN as a single several times before she finally won. And on several Monster Ball Tours she told the audience before playing You and I that she’s not going to release You and I as a single. Personally I love all the single choices she did and that era was literally the least messiest Gaga era we have ever had.

Blown Away

According to Entertainment Weekly, Marry The Night planned to be the third single.

https://ew.com/article/2011/09/29/lady-gaga-next-single-marry-the-night/

It initially was supposed to be the lead single first. Then cancelled for BTW and in line to be third, to be released shortly after the album. But then TEOG came in its way.

I think cancelling MTN for BTW was a good idea, but it should've been the third single. TEOG should've been second and Hair the fourth. Judas and You And I should've never been singles.

They shipped it, but it got shipped back

She said the same with ARTPOP and barely was able to squeeze out 3 singles...even less than the BTW Era

She wanted Sexxx Dreams, MANICURE, Aura, Venus, etc to all be singles

Well we can take HML out cuz that was the intended 6th single...

I think either Scheisse or Hair? MTN already was 5th...

I personally believe she should've left the 'crazy- Ga' image in TFM era, not continue it in the BTW era. She should've gone with a serious but edgy attitude for BTW era. That would fit it more.

I agree. At the time I didn't like they way they pushed Judas as to me (personal opinion, please don't come for me) it felt forced and constructed. The message was "she's kooky & controversial" - rather than what I was into which is a talented musician with an interesting perspective. The music stood by itself without the crazy-Ga branding and actually I think it created the bubble which resulted in the GP being bored of the antics.
