I'm pretty sure it was between Hair and The Edge.

Just like Alejandro/Telephone, Do What U Want/Venus, Million Reasons/A-YO, Shallow/INLA.

They know exactly why they release/tease two songs everytime

Actually Telephone was competing with Monster for the 2nd single choice.

think MTN would have been a great lead.

That would've been very interesting! But I think her team and label wanted to keep the 'crazy- Ga' image going and that's why BTW and Judas were released back to back. They are huge, dizzying, dance- pop songs!

Yes! Born This Way just didn't have many radio friendly or easy to digest pop music. I think the only single worthy songs judging from the time were:

- BTW

- TEOG

- MTN

- Judas

- Hair

These all were dance pop that could appeal to many crowds and had huge choruses that were very popular then.

i couldn't agree more. but i'd put You&I in that list, because if the song was release as second single would had a good rollout i think.

This is very very true. You’re right about the image - it was all about her being avant guard at this time.

Never heard about that, I just know that Alejandro was released before the album

HOWEVER I know that there was a battle between Monster and DITD for the 4th single spot in Europe and DITD won

HML is my favorite music from her, but it would flopped sooo hard if was release as single

Hmmm, I've seen my straight friends bopping to HML :whitney:

It's extremely catchy chorus, not noisy and fits radio well.

It has a radio version too! :firega:

I personally believe she should've left the 'crazy- Ga' image in TFM era, not continue it in the BTW era. She should've gone with a serious but edgy attitude for BTW era. That would fit it more.

i love this song so much omfg. but i highly doubt it would had a good commercial performance. i think its too dark and explicit for radio. even tho i wouldn't be mad at all if it was release. i can't imagine the visuals.

That would be interesting as well! People would be surprised and maybe could've appreciate it more if released earlier.

Yoü and I definitely was released as a trend hopper. However, Lady Gaga definitely had passion for the song, so she most likely at some point wanted it as a single too.

About this, I remember at the time there was a poll somewhere to choose the fourth single from Born This Way, and, in the last day, all the options were changed to Yoü And I.

I can't find the source, and at the time, I was pretty young / didn't knew english. But I remember that this happened, but can't assure if it was official :(

Anyway, is a fun memory

I have a crystal clear memory that Marry the Night was supposed to be the third single. Can't tell you exactly why. But I was a major stan and would have consumed every word she said. As I recall, she said MTN was almost the first single? I swear she mentioned somewhere she planned to release it as the third single. I know she teased the instrumental in a Gagavision early on. And for some reason I remember being disappointed TEOG took it's spot. I wish I remembered better. But I am pretty confident this was true.

I also have this memory, if I remember right, TEOG was kinda like DWUW, a promotional single that took the spot of another song. And Gaga was really trying to push MTN, like in the Monster Ball HBO special
