Covid-19: Scientists suggest that 2M safety distance is not enough

Recent findings of scientists suggest, that the recommended safety distance of 2 metres (approx. 7 foot) is not enough for joggers and bikers outdoors to prevent contact with potentially hazardous aersol emitted from asymptomatic infected Covid-19 cases.

While running, microparticles of salivia are emitted into the air, usually the particles quickly sink down to the ground. While engaging in physical activity, these particles float around for slightly longer. Potential jogger next to you, or behind you (who keep up your pace) will come in contact with the microparticles of salivia before they fall to the ground. The scientists recommend a safety distance of at least 5 metres (16 1/2 feet) while going for a casual stroll, at least 10 metres (33 feet) for joggers and bicyclists and 20 metres (66 feet) for sprinters and similarly pace activities.

Makes sense. I can walk along a path or in an aisle 2m behind someone in front. It don't matter. If they have corona, them air droplets will linger in the air, and oh GODDAMN - I've just walked through them. I think they put this guidance in to place to encourage social distancing, not necessarily to directly stop getting the virus. It won't work. You're still walking through their air a few seconds later.

Always said that. In Italy is just 1M distance.

Yea, but it is still unlikely that people will get infected like that, especially in open spaces.

From what I've read even in close spaces, to get the virus from someone you dont interact with it's still hard. A series of events must take place.

I think if it's enough to slow the rate of transmission than honestly it's accomplishing the goal

We know we're not gonna fully chock out the virus the goal has always been to flatten the curve so healthcare system doesn't get overwhelmed and the measures in place should probably accomplish that.

People cannot be 16 feet apart in grocery stores and other essentials and many will get infected there anyway so I don't think joggers is what will make a big difference on the trend

Don't overreact. It hasn't even killed a FIFTH of what influenza kills every year, and the worst is almost over now globally. It hasn't done ****. The media have scare-mongered you well. The 2000 swine flu pandemic infected 1.2 billion people. COVID-19 has only infected 1.7m so far and it's already nearly halfway through 2020.

Oh im tired of it honestly.

Truth is we cannot control this virus going around, let's just do our best

The whole Point is to flatten curve and reduce rate of spread to not overwhelm health system anyway

We know we are not gonna wipe out virus with social distancing

There's many situations where 16 feet is not realistic

Those that still have to go in to work, or when u go grocery shopping... This is not a realistic guideline to follow :flop:

Well hell cuz it kills a much higher portion and is forcing very harsh measures

If we allowed it to spread it ould kill WAY more than regular influenza so it's not comperable
