Is SL generic?

The verses and pre-chorus go off but IMO the chorus falls flat, especially the chopped vocal :neyde:

It’s a club anthem with synthwave disco beats, but condensed for radio listening.

So in the sense that MOST club music sounds similar, than yeah it could be considered “generic”. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a great soulful pop song.

On the other hand, compared to radio RIGHT NOW, it is very distinct and sounds nothing like the rest of what is currently played on radio.

In 2020 it's super unique. If this was the 80s or 90s, no.

However, I love the music from those time periods that this, and other Gaga songs, like Born This Way, Black Jesus, and Marry The Night, are emulating.

Even if I'm not 100% blown away by the lyrics or video of Stupid Love the production is something really thrilling to listen to.

its not super unique since the 80s and 90s inspired music is a big trend now for quite some time which means it is generic

The deflections in this thread :billie:

it’s one of the most uninspired songs I’ve ever heard. There’s a reason why most of the fan base thought it was a demo for 2011s Born this way when this leaked.

the next single should be more adventurous (Babylon sound fresh as ****)!

Unfortunately SL hasn't made much noise on the chart :-( I wish it would've done though.

I don't think babylon would either though tbh (if she is after chart success that is)

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

I'm kinda scared for the album. Why would she release this mess as the first single if the other songs are much better.

i think and im hoping that the album is more experimental and stupid love was chosen by the record label bcs its was more mainstream, safe?

The sound after she says "i want your stupid love" that is high pitched, is pretty generic and ruins everything in an otherwise good song. Thta sound makes the whole song a little generic.

This is a good point. It basically already sounds like a club dance remix.

I don’t necessarily find it entirely generic just not super interesting. It’s got some cringe-ish lyrics to me, and then the chopped pitched sample I don’t like really, and the instrumental isn’t as interesting as others of hers imo. It’s not BAD and I don’t skip it but I’m also not enamored with it, ya know? It’s just a bit of a whatever to me, but it sounds great in the club!

I mean they did the same for BTW. The most interesting tracks were deep cuts and BTW, by Gaga’s own definition, mind you, was “the gateway” which is a coded way of saying the most palatable track hahaha

No. It’s lyrically light, especially for Gaga, but not generic.

It would probably be more successful if it was generic.

I’m surprised it’s so stable on airplay when a more generic song like The Cure wasn’t able to make as much of an impact.

Yes, completely

She jumped on the sound that's popular right now and failed miserably, there's a reason the GP said no to the track 💀
