Reginald 13,841
In 2020 it's super unique. If this was the 80s or 90s, no. However, I love the music from those time periods that this, and other Gaga songs, like Born This Way, Black Jesus, and Marry The Night, are emulating. Even if I'm not 100% blown away by the lyrics or video of Stupid Love the production is something really thrilling to listen to.
Rio 5,088
The song sounds kind of generic, especially since the lyrics are very carefree and pretty... generic. However, the song has a very interesting structure. It has hooks, but it has virtually no chorus, which is very un-Gaga. You expect the song to build up and go hard on the chorus, but it just drops in to the sick, sweet, rolling beat, and I think it's great. It's like an anti-climax euphoria. The pre-chorus if off the best part of the song. SL would sound awful with a big anthem chorus. It's a polarising song - you even love the song, you hate it, or it grows on you. It's my favourite Gaga lead single (or at least, second to Applause). It grew on me, but when I first heard it I thought it was pretty generic. But it's very synthwave-NRG inspired. It's too experimental to be a smash hit, hence why the song hasn't and probably will not take off. I actually believe it's lukewarm success has nothing to do with it leaking a month prior. It's simply because it's too experimental and too different to current pop. The song is still #1 on the Radio Chart in my country, it's been almost 3 weeks. The song still hasn't taken off much yet. It never happened and then I got hooked. I just wanted it to happen to the GP too but we should've known it wouldn't when the own stanbase didn't like it Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight
androiduser 7,438
not generic, it sounds different than most of the songs out there, but still the lyrics are quite ordinary and the chorus is not strong enough, without being generic or basic. I would say it's not a completely successful attempt at whatever it was Gaga was going for.

You can't say SL is too basic when you don't say that about DSN. They both are as "basic". That's what I'm trying to say. I like both but let's not "treat" them differently
Guest
I think the lyrics are the weakest part of the song and are pretty generic, but I've grown to enjoy the song a little more as of recent.
