MGM accquires Ridley Scott’s Gucci (Gaga is playing Patrizia Reggiani)

This being in the trades can be a way to drum up excitement and create leverage for the producers. MGM seems super excited. Gucci will be made but who is attached can change at any time.  BC had his eyes set on Beyonce for ASIB but negotiations/scheduling? fell out. Negotiations means negotiations. An entire film can be cast, shot, ready to release and still be shelved for some reason.

In other words nothing is confirmed yet

Fingers crossed tho:excited2:

This would be a very interesting transformation and process to see Gaga go through.

Patrizia is something else! Could see Gosling transform into Gucci too.

I wonder what Italians/Italian film industry will think of it/Gaga.

I like how Gaga has leapfrogged each acting venture. She climbs each ladder in the acting world playbook:

Pre-fame- cameo role on TV drama show and reality shows.

Early Fame- music videos, shows, tours, guest appearances on TV shows and talk shows.

2011- Hosts her first Holiday TV special

2013- Hosts SNL, hosts a 2nd holiday special with muppets and plays a small role in Machete Kills, a cult action film.

2014- Small role in Sin City.

2015- Lead in AHS:Hotel which nets her a Golden Globe. Records 'Till it Happens to you' for an indie movie soundtrack. Wins several awards and showstopping performances.

2016- Recurring character in AHS:Roanoke

2017- Netflix documentary and Superbowl Halftime show

2018- ASIB

2021- This movie?

She literally climbed her way from cameo performances on reality tv shows and televised serial drama shows to small roles in indie and cult films then lead actress in a hit horror television show. She then escapes the various realms of reality tv, cameos in standardized television, comedy skits, and horror shows to the next level of Actress Stardom. Lead actress in a critically and commercially acclaimed romantic drama musical. Now she is climbing further up the staircase, this time it would be for more of an artistic film that film snobs and acting critics can enjoy more so. It will help show off her versatility. Also show she doesn't have to rely on her musical ability. Although itd be cool if she recorded a few Italian opera songs for the movie soundtrack to fit the theme.

BC never wanted Bey tho, the other guy who was supposed to direct it wanted her

thats Clint Eastwood. But I thought she was still being courted when BC got directing, then she fell through? Still, see how things can be "close" yet simultaneously up in the air, for years? That's why they call it development hell.

The word we're looking for is confirmed. Otherwise they're still in talks and can be for a while.

Yh I know, but it's kinda weird how they already have a release date but they still haven't confirmed who will play the lead parts

Really glad this will be getting the theatrical treatment! Much more glamorous than a streaming release.

In my opinion, Netflix can occasionally put forth an A-rated film effort, but all of the other streaming services produce B and C tier content

Looking forward to hopefully another stunning press tour and award season sweep :legend: I'd be fine with Gag putting out Machete level bit parts and goofy B-movie roles forever but it's sounding like this is gonna be another ASIB :legend:

Yeah they seem really excited and confident. This seems to be a passion project for the Scotts. They're already calling it in the can with a bow on it for Thanksgiving next yr from the middle of a pandemic. Like sir, will the earth still be here next year? 😬  And Scott already has 4 other projects announced. Gucci isn't even in his imdb ( whatever that's worth). Wondering if they even have a script yet? If I needed things to pick up with my production ( more producers, star power etc), I'd keep making announcements about the major name attached too. That's what usually happens but this seems like a tight timeline considering the state of the industry right now. They could be trying to secure the bag and have everything lined up, so as soon as lockdowns lifted, he can finish The Last Duel then push it through.

Seems shaky for some reason. Like too eager?

ok..this may explain it

A bottle-necking of resources may be the root of this rush. If a prod company makes enough noise about a project now, they may be able to secure resources before others in the post lockdown rush.

While most lots sit empty for the foreseeable future, the question atop industry insiders’ minds is how the executives in charge of them plan to handle a production logjam that’s likely to await them on the other side of this crisis. Dozens of films and TV series that had to pack up mid-shoot are expected to compete with previously scheduled projects for limited studio space at a time when production was already at all-time highs — not to mention the scripts writers have been able to safely churn out during the quarantine, only adding to the number of projects that will be ready to jump into production. Notes one insider, “There’s going to be so much jockeying.” Many in the filming community are bracing for a post-COVID-19 traffic jam.

I’m sure it was confirmed Clint wanted Beyoncé but when Bradley helmed the project he did not so she was dropped or dropped out. I think Beyoncé’s acting resume probably ruined her chances since she is basically an awful actress anyway.

I wonder how the Beyoncé version would’ve went down, I can’t see it having been a success because 1) Beyonce doesn’t allow her image to become gritty and dirty and regular like gaga does 2) If the film still came out in 2018 Beyonce was already marketing herself as proud of her ethnicity and of black people im general, and Clint is a known gun loving, Republican voting racist so she probably would’ve had to have dropped out for PR sake anyway.

it’s just interesting to think about

The variables of almost-casts make my head hurt. Once someone has made a role iconic, it's hard to see other ppl inhabiting it well.  Just like Gwyneth Paltrow as Rose in Titanic, I can't even fathom what a Beyonce ASIB would look like at this point.

Anyway...I remember BC def saying in an interview that it was due to scheduling conflicts. Trying to find that video, I came across this great timeline though:the

https://www.goldderby.com/article/2018/a-star-is-born-how-lady-gaga-replaced-beyonce-bradley-cooper-clint-eastwood/

With no progress on the male casting front and no start date, Beyonce exited in October 2012 due to scheduling conflicts...The film would remain in limbo for almost three years before Cooper — after the death of his father and having done “The Elephant Man” on Broadway — felt he was ready to play the part; he signed on to direct and star in March 2015. According to our sister site Deadline, the first order of business was to try to get Beyonce back. At the “Joy” premiere in December 2015, Cooper denied a report that said Beyonce had officially signed on. “Just a rumor,” he told E! News. “But with that said, I would be honored obviously with to work with her in any capacity.”

Three months later, Beyonce was out for good. She had supposedly asked for too much money, according to Page Six, and Warner Bros. decided she wasn’t irreplaceable (pun intended). Gaga was first reported to be in talks in June 2016 and was officially announced to play the Ally to Cooper’s Jackson two months later.

And note that even with Beyonce attached for 5 years-- as well as all the male leads in the mix-- negotiations still fell through. Not uncommon.

I can’t imagine Gwyneth being Rose because I see Gwyneth as a more comedic actress idk why. And there’s no way Bey could’ve been Ally in all honesty because Ally seems written to be unsure, cynical, gritty and imperfect which is entirely the opposite of Bey’s entire PR image.

Hopefully Gaga does another movie soon though I want another amazing film to see her leading again
