i feel like it is a choice, at least to an extent. if you made poor choices and got in debt, you chose that. however, some are born in poverty, or maybe their belongings were stolen or destroyed. you can't generalize it.

There's 2 causes of poverty:

 

1. Self inflicted

 

2. Bad luck and circumstances outside your control

 

The economy is hard and people get screwed over by no fault of their own.

 

But there's also people that do it to themselves too in different ways. The statement while innacurate to make as a generalization, can apply to many

 

I literally know so many individuals who can't make payments right now with Covid-19 work layoffs who are normally relatively well off and spend too much money and could have afforded to be responsible and put a little away in case of an emergency but just didnt. Whose dam fault is that?

 

I'm not talking about single parents, underpayed individuals, people with health issues and high medical bills, immigrants or a big group of people that are screwed over by chrony Capitalism those would belong to group #2 I described

 

I'm talking about individuals who do have the opportunity to make good choices and don't. Sometimes ppl out themselves in bad economic decisions by choice
