And I agree, it’d be basically worthless for 1 of 12 months to shut down because that’s only about 8% (if my math isn’t total sh*t) of the year’s emissions. But this unplanned shut down can help scientists and politicians understand what is more efficient in trying to be green, because spending trillions of dollars to switch directly to green energy isn’t idealistic either only because you have to think of the conservative states that would be hard pressed to go completely green. It’s all about bringing in different ideas and discussions that will help us get to where we want to be, in regards to being green, but with so many different regulations and policies in place everything is basically just ideas and it’s very hard to switch solely to green energy or intentionally shut down governments for a month. I'm not saying everyone would go for spending a fortune to instantly go green. I was merely trying to show how for the same financial and economic cost, one would actually get more permanent results out of it Cuz actually retrofitting our economy and investing in green alternatives allows us to still have an economy with less footprint A shutdown is basically just conservation essentially. Purposely shrinking the economy to consume and pollute less. In other words made everyone poorer so the environment is less attacked But im glad to know u don't actually want a shutdown and u meant just a form of discussing options cuz ur first comment sounded like u did in fact support a shutdown as a viable option for our climate As someone who is really into economy and wants more prosperity for everyone but also recognizes environment is extremely important, I like to go by the EROEI method on this (Energy Return, On Energy Invested) That's a ratio usually used in energy projects to measure resources spent on energy projects vs what they are going to get in return out of it. In this case I'm not talking about energy industry but applying the same principal to economy vs environment in the sense that some things yield a lot more return on environmental benefits for every $1 spent than other things By this principal and idea an annual shut down (or form of conservation) would have a really poor return in relation to economic costs

Do remember though, this wasn’t planned in any way so they weren’t even planning on spending this amount of money on anything at all, until they were forced to. So to say that if we spent this amount on going green, it would be more efficient is an idealistic statement also because they didn’t even want to spend this much at all But yeah no, I don’t want the shut down because it’s not a realistic idea in any sense. I just didn’t like that you came in shutting down that person and saying that you hope they never go into politics because that was just mean and shutting them down for just an idea they had. It just “triggered” me because I had that happen a lot when I was growing up so I hate when people automatically shut someone else down for just trying express an option or opinion. Spoiler Also, i didn’t realize you were so into the economy you know with your name and all

But that was in response to the insinuating that we should do it again in the future for green measures I wasn't talking about the money spent now on shutdowns because of the virus. I'm talking about the idea of doing it again on purpose in the future for environmental reasons

And tbh I kinda agree with her. Like it’s random and small but it’s as if the weather/season is resetting itself here in the UK during the lockdown would be perfect for december to be completely honest
