FfFfFfFF 58,072
A 35-year-plan to dig up iron sand in Taranaki waters has been rejected by the Court of Appeal. Trans-Tasman Resources hoped to suck up 50 million tonnes of iron sand each year, but lost its appeal against the High Court decision. Greenpeace oceans campaigner Jess Desmond says it took a group effort to stop. "This is a huge victory for the ocean and also for the local iwi, Kiwis Against Seabed Mining and for all the community and environmental groups who stood up to fight against this mine for years," Desmond told Newshub. The water are know to protect several species, many of which are even protected. It is said that the mining would've killed everything on the seafloor, as well as heavily and negatively affect the habitat of numerous species of mammals and marin animals.
