Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a three-week lockdown of India’s 1.3 billion people on March 24 in a desperate bid of trying to contain the new coronavirus.

About two weeks since the lockdown was imposed, India has clearer skies like what has happened in Manila.

With this, the Dhauladhar mountain, which is part of the Himalayan chain of mountain ranges, can be seen even from Jalandhar, which 230 kms away.

Other mountains that became significantly more visible from kilometres away because of the drastical reduction of polution caused by the COVID-19 lockdown are the mointain range of Sierra Madre (Philippines) - made visible from country's capital 260 kms away.

wow.  I do hope for COVID to come to an end soon and normal life can resume-however, how great would it be if we can sustain and maintain some of this reduced air pollution .  I think there will be a new normal once all this blows over and we will all look after ourselves and our planet with more care.

I know this is not an Economy thread ( @Economy ) but here in Italy we are going towards a serious recession of our a Economy.

Industries, firms and factories have stop producing goods or have been converted into primary needs goods supplier. People are either loosing their jobs, can’t afford to pay up bills and stuff to survive with their families, or getting lower incomes than you could even imagine.

Our system can be rot, I know. It is, in fact, destroying the Earth. But it IS the current system and it keeps billions of people alive, and without it people are literally starving.

If we were to change our system, it would be because of the other billions of people our system is actually killing, imo. It is less important to see the mountains from 200 kms always (although so, so, so beautiful) than to have something to eat to keep you and your loved ones alive, if you ask me.

The fact that people are born into this world near that place thinking it's normal to not see the Himalayas :ohno:

I do hope we can keep pollution levels very low after Covid 19... but I know thats not gonna be the reality unfortunately

This is how normally mountains looks like from hilltop at my place. I haven't been there in long time. And strangely we have not noticed any change in views (its already much clearer earlier actually. If it gets any more cleaner, we can see China I guess). But I can already feel change in air quality and sunlight. It reminds me of my childhood days when being in nature felt relaxing.

Corona is just a reminder of what nature has suffered because of us human. 15 days continuous lock-down every year should be introduced in every country from 2021.

Now more than ever it is our duty to move on to a better world, post-COVID, not go back to our old ways. Mother Nature is telling us

Amazing how the earth can take care of itself if we just let it. At least for now. If we continue to destroy it, it may very well never be able to.

It's beautiful to see reports like this from all over the world. Clear canals in Venice, dolphins at the coasts of Europe, wildlife in the cities, etc. I really think that all these sightings of nature recovering in just a few weeks really show who's the actual virus on this planet.

We always just assume that we have to survive pandemics like this, but we never ask ourselves if humanity actually deserves to.
