TimisaMonster 31,073
It's just the rate on infection is faster than the rate of death and this pandemic still hasnt finished...once its over...THEN look at the total numbers of infected vs dead... For now, this only tells me people are contracting it faster than dying from it...not that it's less deadly...dont let this fool you Stream my new single, š"Heartbeat"š, on Spotify! shame 25,360
isn't it realistically at 19%? considering the fact that we should be looking at closed cases and should not be including unresolved cases as part of the calculation because those ones could still go either way. angels forever, forever angels

This is why I stopped trusting anything that comes out of MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, or any other major news network here in the US. They love instilling moral panic. News outlets thrive during crisis moments and their ratings rise so it's not in their best interest to significantly highlight facts (or just evidence) that puts a bit of a lid on panic Ā I'm not trying to say this isn't serious. I'm not saying downplay it like Donald Trump Ā But real serious threats that do deserve critical attention can still be embellished even more Ā I'm sure the media knows that the real percentage is certainly lower than the official numbers because of mild cases being more likely to be missed. But they won't even mention that as a side point or footnote most of the time Ā To me that's not balanced. Report all facts and information as is. Don't downplay it, but don't cherry pick only the scariest facts to report and make it seem even worse either. Ā This is really bad and a threat yes. But it's not the black plague from the 1300s either. Don't make it sound like we're all gonna die. That much disproportionate panic isn't healthy either. It only fuels issues like panic buying in grocery stores or anxiety problemsĀ Ā That's what I was getting at in more detail @PartySick
LGMonster95 13,704
TBH I'm stillĀ scared that I'll die if I get corona even if I don't have serious health issues or being old (I'm just fat lol). Maybe it's because I heard a lot of bad stuff on TV especially the young cases. Anyway everyone should take this issue VERY seriously

Cases that have had a chance to run their courses paint a more accurate number because obviously someone who got infected yesterday is not gonna be dead Ā Although we should keep in mind given the time to get symptoms, get hospitalized or tested, then get results back... Getting confirmed cases take time so most confirmed cases will not be in early stages. Ā But yes advanced or not the accurate death rate should look at finished cases Ā But even tho this OP makes a very valid point too. The official numbers may include cases that haven't run their course but the official numbers also no doubt miss MANY more mild cases Ā The real numbers are probably still lower than the official numbers
Guest
Nobody really knows how this virus behaves, so u can't even say "don't stay near old people" because more and more young people are dying from it. We need years of research to figure out who corona is and how it works. We're not even sure if higher temperature will mean the virus will spread less, we also are not sure why some have it worse than others, because even older people with complications can get lucky and have mild symptoms. It's very erratic overall

It's very erratic overall Many experts think warmer weather will only slow it marginally Ā It will help in the sense that the virus won't survive on surfaces as long (one thing we do know about the virus is that it doesn't like heat) so less chance for ppl to get infected when they touch surfaces Ā But it won't help much in terms of spread from direct contact with someone. Since most ppl are still not immune to this thing cuz it's new, it will still spread easily from person to person... Ā So even if the virus has less opportunity to find hosts thru surfaces, it will still infect ppl directly Ā Or at least the theory goes. Like u said no one can say for sure

Lady Rah Rah 2,013
I really wish I could sleep for 6 months until this all is over. Its literally scaring me to death, I'm not afraid of dying but I'm scared my loved ones will suffer. I tried reading less about it today and my anxiety went down a lot but still...my heart breaks to know so many are suffering and losing loved ones. Sorry if I sound negative, I'm not saying we won't get through this or that everyone will die at all. It just feels so surreal. Like we are living in a movie.Ā Chromatica will live on forever. Maleficent 6
Same thing happened with H1N1 in 2009. Early 2009 they said the mortality rate was 4-6%, then it went to 2-4%, and after the vaccine came out in November the mortality rate was "revealed through extensive research to have been 0.001%". Which is why there were so many conflict of interest lawsuits brought up against vaccine manufacturers.Ā

Itās happening, people are still going to beaches in Miami, private parties and even yesterday, they gathered large crowds in New York just to watch the U.S Comfort. They need to be extra cautious but thatās not what Iām seeing.
