Tenants call out landlords for eviction threats during coronavirus crisis

Some people in this thread seem slimy .

I feel bad for both sides. My landlord didn’t communicate anything with me so I just assumed I had to pay and am fortunate enough to have paid on time.

I don’t feel bad for landlords that are currently sending TEXTS saying to get out and find AirBNB’s.

Land-lords can’t be so emotionally un-intelligent and be kicking people out of their places with nowhere to go and increasing everybody else’s risk of getting Coronavirus.

Ultimately this is a symptom of the majority of Americans having less than the people at the top who are hoarding wealth. When stuff like this happens, it can’t just stay “up to the people”. We ain’t got the money for any of this sh*t. The government is going to have to come up with another stimulus package in response to rent and mortgage issues. They’ve already shown that we can pull trillions out of their asses any time they want.

I feel like a lot of you still live with your mum and dont really understand how letting works. Saying stuff like "my focus is on the people" is virtue signalling. Many landlords do NOT make profit, many landlords NEED tenants who pay rent to survive. Those in the OP are extreme cases and it is terrible however blame your governments for making it difficult for both parties.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

And thats why kicking out your tenants is not a good idea right now

It’s a hard spot to be in. I am a property manager for a company and monthly we are assessed on how much we collected vs the total billed. Of course I am offering extensions and waiving late fees, but I simply cannot erase a debt and not expect a payment within a reasonable time. It’s so easy to point blame at the landlord, but if they dont pay, then we dont pay our mortgage, and I could be seen as not being aggressive enough. Not to mention, there will be people that abuse the situation and try to lie to save money. But from what I understand, we cannot evict, BUT we can prepare the file for eviction, but WAIT, and give a fair amount of time for the virus to be no longer a threat before we can file the eviction. Meanwhile, what is expected of 95% occupancy, turns instantly into 75% or worse because people think their debt will vanish and a handful will disappear once they realize they still owe.

Please educate yourself on both tenants and landlords. Classifying landlords as “pigs” just shows ignorance.

It’s true! We can’t forget that the majority of people on this site are keyboard warriors, probably around the age of 17, who think communism is cool lmao. They are so disconnected from reality and think they have the answer to everything. They love using the excuse of “humanity” to push nonsensical agendas that affect everyone negatively in the long run.

I'm working in the real estate industry right now; while we're deemed "essential" in Illinois, our business has taken a hard hit. Since I'm not an agent, I don't exactly make the big bucks - hell, I make hourly. It would be cheaper for me to buy a house with no down payment right now.

I'm currently renting in Chicago, and it's close to $2,800 USD a month (split 3 ways). Our landlord's mortgage payment is not much less than that and they profusely apologized when they had to raise our rent $30 due to the 2019 tax hike in the city. They're renting this place out until their kids are in college and will stop taking tenants then. Sometimes, it's not someone's main source of income per se, but it's definitely not a profitable situation for them. And the husband and wife are currently out of work for their day jobs with three kids under the age of 15. I feel for the landlords and tenants who will be put in awful situations in the upcoming months; but it's not, in my opinion, an "us/them" situation. Everyone is f*cked over right now.

I’m hoping these are some of the most extreme cases, and hopefully most landlords are trying to help in the best way they can. I’m extremely grateful to be able to pay my rent this month, and I can only imagine the stress people are going through who can’t. So I’m sure nasty messages from landlords don’t help.

educate yourself on dramatic jokes baby :huntyga: i'm aware that one bad apple doesn't make the whole tree rotten. But landlords like these are pigs. And a lot of landlords are sketchy/shady people especially in bigger cities or areas that are lower income.

They provide rental options. Without landlords u either buy ur own house ur stay with ur parents.

It's also how cheaper options like renting just a basement exists

Is this happening anywhere else other than the United States of the Broken System?

I am against people kicking others out during the current pandemic, but I don't get the stigma around landlords. A lot of them literally worked half their life to buy an investment property. If they worked for it, it is theirs to make an investment out of. Those who don't want to pay rent just because they don't want to and not due to financial stress are literal freeloaders.
