Trudeau has announced that in order to prevent abuse or advantage taking by businesses the new program to subsidize 75% of wages for small and medium sized businesses comes with restrictions and businesses must prove they need it

A business must have their revenue fall by at least 30% (almost 1/3) in order to qualify for this assistance

The wage subsidy also caps at $847 a week (for a total wage around $1,100/week) to ensure money is not being thrown at middle-upper class job positions that don't need it the most badly at the moment

I support these restrictions actually because not every business in every sector is going to be affected enough to need 3/4 of their employees wages covered by Government especially businesses deemed as "essential" like grocery stores

The $847 a week subsity cap also ensures the program doesn't have to be even more expensive than it needs to be to cover really high wages

If u make over $1,100 a week and the business can't afford to pay u more than that without the subsity u can probably afford a temporary pay cut tbh

This makes sense. It seeks to help both people and businesses that are in significant struggle. We've got to be responsible with our subsidizing and overall spend.

Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

This. If these lockdowns happen for a very long time or on and off governments can't afford to throw money at every single thing. They are gonna have to prioritize

It's not a time for people or businesses to take advantage and try to milk the system if they aren't among the most needy
