Economy 52,928 Posted March 30, 2020 Share Posted March 30, 2020 https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/employers-losing-30-of-revenue-eligible-for-wage-subsidy-pm-1.1414606 Trudeau has announced that in order to prevent abuse or advantage taking by businesses the new program to subsidize 75% of wages for small and medium sized businesses comes with restrictions and businesses must prove they need it A business must have their revenue fall by at least 30% (almost 1/3) in order to qualify for this assistance The wage subsidy also caps at $847 a week (for a total wage around $1,100/week) to ensure money is not being thrown at middle-upper class job positions that don't need it the most badly at the moment Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Economy 52,928 Posted March 30, 2020 Author Share Posted March 30, 2020 I support these restrictions actually because not every business in every sector is going to be affected enough to need 3/4 of their employees wages covered by Government especially businesses deemed as "essential" like grocery stores The $847 a week subsity cap also ensures the program doesn't have to be even more expensive than it needs to be to cover really high wages If u make over $1,100 a week and the business can't afford to pay u more than that without the subsity u can probably afford a temporary pay cut tbh Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

If these lockdowns happen for a very long time or on and off governments can't afford to throw money at every single thing.
