She had an insanely good voice although she strained a lot (well Elphaba is a stressful character to sing, even Idina Menzel damaged her vocal folds). But I remember the creator of Wicked hired her even she was way younger than the age requirement (she was 19, the age was supposed to be around 25 to 35 I think) because she was really good.
