because she presented herself as fvckable

It was actually not cool to like Britney, she was extremely mocked all the time. People made fun of me for liking her music. It was like the Justin Bieber Baby era but it took a longer time. It got better but she was not fully respected as an artist until she released Circus.

Yes her team did play alot on sexualizing her in a very pedophilic way, but in at the same time tried to present her as this young innocent christian girl thats a virgin! This is exactly what perverted adult men like. She even had older men visit her backstage and she had to shut down meet & greet!

I remember the 1999 - 2004 years very well.  She was everywhere. She could sing and dance very well, but i just didn't see any personality behind her musical persona. She was not threatening or aggressive image-wise to the Status Quo, in fact she was the target of a lot of tabloids and wasn't taken seriously.

I wasn't a fan nor a hater, i just didn't care. When Oops was released it sounded like a sped up BOMT. The hype was huge and her image was getting more and more sexualized. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I only became a fan of Britney when I heard Overprotected, after that I was her biggest fan till this day. I remember at that time I looked at her past albums like Baby and Oops as horrible music!
