smitherz 2,355
I’m stoned out of my mind listening to Born This Way right now and I kind of had a realization. Gaga made a song talking about “no matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgender” and made it one of the biggest songs ever. It’s a ****ing anthem for so many people, including myself. That’s pretty damn cool. Also I think her celebrating our community in such consistently bold ways was probably a huge risk at the time, and I think it’s pretty cool that we had such a loud cheerleader on our side. Idk I just think she’s ****ing awesome and I appreciate the years of comfort her presence in the world has given me. okay I’m done have a good night everyone lol
hELXIG 43,032
That's so funny, I'm literally smoking right now and was going to listen to music! That's right buddy! That's why it was such a big deal at the time! Noone was talking about gay rights back then lets alone transgender rights. This was before the trans rights movement, before the general public knew what the word meant. For the biggest pop star in the world to open up a discussion like this with a chart topping hit, and also being so vocal about it in interviews, was a huge deal at the time. I think she changed things for us forever, because after that it became 'trendy' to be into gay rights (once the record labels/hollywood realised it was an 'untapped market' to profit from ) It was a huge risk, and she took it not because she wanted to take advantage of us, but because she really cared about us. It was drag queens and the LGBTQ+ community that believed in her and gave her her start when noone else would. People forget why exactly the gay community loves her so much I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

djBuffoon 12,120
Born This Way is an experience in a way that only a handful of contemporary pop albums even aspire to be. It’s what made me a Gaga stan in the first place, she creates entertaining music that also warrants conversation.

gumzy3000 7,318
Interesting timing! I was smoking a joint a few days ago and I listened to several tracks from Born This Way after. Honestly, I love this album so much but in that moment I was high, I appreciated the album even more because it just sounds fearless, brave and confidant! I love this album and love Gaga for giving the LGBTQ+ community a voice trolly troll troll

Miel 15,009
Honestly, I wonder if pop fans realize how bold and honestly groundbreaking the song is for the time it was released. She took a huge risk by creating arguably the largest hype for a single release in recent times, and released a politically explicit anthem. I will always have the utmost respect for the song and for the album. 3 points in and ready for more
