Whenever she did reference Madonna she turned it on its head and added a quintessentially Gaga touch, like the shoulderpad jacket. That could still work today But yeah it would be odd after all of her comments Still, I would live

From the hair all the way to the boots. It was just a fun, cheeky reference, and I loved it and so did most other people because back then, Gaga made no secret about how much she loved Madonna and how much she had inspired her. Now it's a different story Okay I kinda get what you mean with the clothing idea, tho Madonna's was overall blue. But their hair is not the same at all, Madonna's hair was 70s ABBA inspired, and a normal haircolor. Gaga's hair was more like some 50s pin up hairstyle if you ask me, and yellow like Warhol's Marilyn Monroe.

Also, check the sunglasses. The hair is way too similar to be dismissed as not a reference, but I'll admit it could possibly be a combined reference to Madonna and Monroe/Warhol (probably the latter). Gaga never just copied Madonna and called it a day, she always added something that didn't quite fit because that was her point: I'm the next pop star but I'm also intelligent and different, hence the simultaneous reference to rock icon Bowie with the shoulderpads, aka blending 70s and 80s. There was always a concept behind her choices. But imo it's pretty undeniable that look was an obvious reference/tribute. Literally no one but Madonna has ever worn such a colored leather jacket with a hidden leotard, tights and those boots. Madonna put that on the map with that era. Guillaume Hamon 6,513
Honestly gaga tried all the looks you can try in the last 12 years so now anything tempted by a new pop girl will look like slightly like "gaga in the year ..." . A bit like every gaga move was compared to madonna's ones since M had 25 years to do every fashion style/ music genre/ career switch/ stunt etc when gaga arrived. Okay but those are just normal sunglasses. That Jacket aint that oversised to me. I still don't think the hair is similar, to me its just 70s hair. Sorry I can't help it, I just don't see it the way you see it. Except the cobination of the top clothing and the panties and the boots is a similar idea. Even if Gaga logged in here and said "no, Galvon, this was obviously a reference loooolll" you still wouldn't believe it, I'm sure It's just a tribute, holy ****, and not even to Madonna only, also to Bowie. Like I said: in this period every time someone asked her who her biggest inspirations were, she said Madonna and Bowie. And you think this look is a coincidence? Hilarious. Idk why people hate it when their faves are inspired by someone lol

There's a reason a huge chunk of the audience and the press instantly recognized that show opening look. Believe me, these people have a bit too big of an ego that they wouldn't allow themselves to be called copycats of anyone, regardless. Of course, that's not the case with these two album covers
