Democrats are pushing for stronger protections for workers and raised alarms about the scope of some funding levels and programs. Among the concerns was the size of a Treasury Department fund and the discretion Mr. Mnuchin and his lieutenants would have to decide who would receive those funds, as well as how quickly the administration would have to disclose loans or loan guarantees made to companies and industries.

Democrats have also voiced concerns that the bill does not contain enough barriers to prevent industries from laying off their work forces after receiving federal funds.

Well I hope it workd and they end up coming with a better deal. But I dont think they have time to do that or if it will work.

Actually Katie Porter who's a progressive in the house actually questioned Nancy's position on this issue. I hope people like her bring light to this issue and force Pelosi to change her position

How are Republicans, Mitt Romney, Trump, and Trump officials on the left of Congressional Dem leadership on this issue?

Trump is offering Universal Basic Income, suspending mortgage foreclosures, demanding cash payments to Americans, invoking the Defense Production Act to force private firms to produce needed supplies.

Even if Trump is doing it to get re-elected, atleast he is changing to get your vote and does not feel entitled to it. While Democrats feel entitled to get your vote and refuse to change even in time of crisis. And I dont blame them considering Democrats openly say we will vote for you in all cases.

Last I heard (a few hours ago) the Reps wanted the Dems to vote before seeing the actual text of the proposal

No government wants UBI, specially the corporate establishment on all sides. Even Trump does not really want it. But Trump wants to make a big change specially after the economic and caronavirus crisis, so he has an incentive to support UBI while Pelosi does not.

I was actually defending Republicans

I know your siding with the republicans right now ..

I'm commenting on the Dem's position right now..

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

Jesus Christ, not even close.

Schumer and Pelosi arent objecting to an aid check. But they are objecting to an unregulated bailout of corporations who can just go turn around, fire all their workers and buy back their stock.

How did this even become a narrative?

Because it offers marginal/no help to actual people but half a trillion in bailouts for corporations :toofunny:

No matter how you feel about this particular decision, Pelosi needs to be voted out as Speaker in the Fall. I'm so done with her. She's so out of touch with the average American. We need a progressive with a clear vision for the future of America to represent the Democratic Party.

I knew you’d make this thread. We’re going to get a **** bill either way. Might as well get one that is slightly less shitty. The R bill was a bailout for corporations, failing to protect the most vulnerable workers.

But seriously, Nancy needs to get her sh*t together and stop being such an @$$. I swear to god this is literally one of the sanest moves made by the Trump admin.
