I also was avoiding crowded places by March 4.  On March 3 I cancelled my ticket for a concert in a venue that holds less than 150 people.  Despite the US government's inadequate response, it was common sense to avoid crowds by March 4.  By that time it was obvious that the US government  was dangerously downplaying the seriousness of the situation, and people had to take matters into their own hands to stay safe.

It was obvious to those keeping track of how it spread in other countries and how it had already started to spread in the USA.  We knew by then that without testing we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg and the likely cases in the USA was probably many times more than were known.  I was looking forward very much to that concert and would not have cancelled if the potential dangers weren't known.

Exactly. Anyone informed in global affairs and with common sense could see what was going to happen, though I understand that some people were in denial because it seemed so alarmist and far-fetched. Why would anyone expect things to be any different in the US than in China and Italy? Back in late February, I already was taking precautions, and earlier in February I'd already started procuring some emergency supplies, knowing that a lockdown would be coming at some point (no, I didn't hoard, don't worry).

The concert I cancelled was in Woodstock, NY, far from any known corona cases.  But by March 3 the virus was already confirmed in NYC, Long Island, and Westchester County.  Since Tanya Tucker is a county music legend, people could have easily been traveling from any of those places to Woodstock to see her.  My wife and I are are both in the very high risk group and can't take any chances.  I had tickets to 18 live performances this year, and will cancel when the times approach.  Best to wait for the artist or venue to cancel because then you probably get a refund.

At Wegmans I can get groceries and supplies without ever meeting a person.  I think many stores will start following that model.

I'm glad you have a good way to shop without meeting people. I am quarantined with my mom and stepdad who are in their 70s, so I am the designated shopper and am looking out for them. I need to keep myself healthy to keep them healthy, so I am being extraordinarily careful.
