German Virologist Hendrick Streeck and his team of nurses and doctors have discovered new symptoms in relation to the new coronvirus that causes the COVID-19 lung disease. 67% of all Corona patients he treated lost their sense of smell and taste while being infected. He describes the intensity of symptom that the majority of infected people would not be able to smell a sh*tty diaper even if you put it right in their face.

Disclaimer: People can't smell and taste anything WHILE being sick with Corona, this is not a longterm effect of the disease.

So there are long term health issues from Covid 19 :omg:    I read a study from a Chinese doctor that suggested that not only does it leave scarring, but also similar effects to that of Lung cancer... if it doesn't kill you, you'll be left with health issues related to Covid 19

It's a symptom of the disease, not a long term effect. Nobody knows anything yet about the long-term effects of the disease on the body because we're still in the pandemic :rip:

Overall: This is good news, because it helps doctors and people differentiate better between COVID-19 and a common cold/flu.

How accurate is this research? These claims of COVID-19 aftermath start to sound more and more like vintage scarredy propaganda. People have been recovered from COVID-19 for over a month now, and no one has reported a loss of smell and taste.

Edit: Ok, might've misunderstood. Thought this stated that the loss of senses occured when one has been treated and recovered.

I read it too, it was said that while it's still 'new', in similar conditions like SARS (iirc) the lung damage was longterm and they think it's likely to be the same for CV too

But of course idk

instead of trynna scare everyone on here, u should also add to the OP that it is not permanent.

"Fast alle Infizierten, die wir befragt haben, und das gilt für gut zwei Drittel, beschrieben einen mehrtägigen Geruchs- und Geschmacksverlust."

Meaning they lost their senses for a period of a few days but recovered them eventually.

Even tho the symptom itself is terrifying, it finally gives a distinction between a common flu and COVID-19 and maybe, many people get out of panic mode again and can think rationally and don't treat anyone with a simple cold as a leper :wtfga:

I think that applies more to higher risk groups such as the elderly and individuals with immunocompromised systems.

Lmao not you trying to give attitude when you knew exactly what you were doing when u worded it as "lost their sense of smell and taste completely". Nowhere in your original post have you ever mentioned that is temporarily. I know it's shocking, but not everyone on GGD can read the original source since its German :)

this is just telling us another way to identify if you have the disease I feel, it's not supposed to scare people at least as far as I can see

Which I did just now, it just never occurred to me that people would even think this would be permanent. "Symptoms of the disease" already does kinda imply that this is... nothing permanent. Like fever is a symptom of the flu, but people don't have fever anymore when they're fully cured of the flu. :emma:
