The first two years of her career was such a visual change I didn’t think they were the same person

the power of make up y’all

I swear to GOD when i was 11 and i first watched Bad Romance, and then I watched Poker Face, when i realized the videos were a YEAR apart my mind was blown. SO different in every way, from the looks to the makeup to the sound to the voice. I just couldn't understand at that time, to the point it was scary lol

Reject False Icons

It’s really curious you see TF as light

cause I’ve seen her 3 first eras as all dark imagery

Actually tbh I don’t. I do believe TFM is its own record but I just wanted to do a transition from TF to BTW to showcase how she went from light from the start and then dark and edgy with her third album.

I see now, makes sense. Sort of her evolution from start to peak.

The Fame Monster is definetly darker than BTW in all senses. Yes, the imagery in BTW era was edgier and more complex but it also feels empowering and positive, while TFM is pure sorrow, and she's surrounded by negativity and evil (monsters), that shows in the sound and lyrics. BTW is more like her owning the darkness in her life and making it something positive, to be proud of, which also shows in the sound and lyrics.

TFM is her being lost, heartbroken, suffocated and used, while BTW is her in warrior mode and empowering herself

Same! Even from JD to BR was look 2 different people. That was the start of her being a chameleon/ shapeshifter and always looking different.

The shift was definitely more gradual than you're letting on but you're right in saying it is without a doubt one of the biggest transformations in pop history. I'll never forget seeing the born this way photoshoot all over British tabloids with everyone questioning if the horns on her face were real. Iconic times.

same here! it's still hard to reconcile in my mind that gaga with bangs and gaga without bangs are the same person. hair and makeup makes such a huge difference; it's truly an art form in its own right.

It’s like she got constantly darker with her music and visuals. Having Paparazzi as the transition Single was a great idea as it was the darkest song on TF too, can you imagine if she actually ended the era with Summerboy :selena: but yeah, I love the transitioning

I agree it really feels like paparazzi was MADE specifically for the transition. It's fits on both albums pretty well.
