CureVac won't sell out to Trump

Translation:

The pharmaceutical company CureVac in Tübingen won't sign any deal with the US. An exclusive contract with any country on the topic of a Corona vaccine is out of question. They want a vaccine for the entire world, not any specific countries.

They're heavily funded by the German government. Luckily our government has the right to stop purchases of companies if their work is too important for the state. This happened a lot lately with Chinese companies who tried to buy and I'm sure this will also apply to the US.

But I thought the pharmaceutical industry was evil :billie:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

you have to wonder how ebola was so well contained in the US in 2015? Was it solely bc it was a more virulent virus (and hence that hindered its transmissibility?)

I'm pretty sure this wasn't the decision of the company anymore :huntyga:

I once did a excursion around the Biomedical Campus where CureVac is located and if I recall correctly, they have been funded not only by governmental programs, but also by the city and the University of Tübingen as well as a cluster and start-up funding program from  Baden-Württemberg. It would have been truly a mess if they had decided to sell their stuff exclusively to Trump:triggered:

That was probably the deciding factor if you ask me. The German government wasn't willing seeing this company being sold, so they intervened.

Mister G

Good job to them. Trump basically wants to look like a superhero in all of this after demonstrating how poorly he could handle it.

Wait so ... they would’ve gotten American funding meaning their work would’ve been accelerated ...?? And that’s bad because ???
