StrawberryBlond 14,254
Not sticking up for Madonna, but like I said earlier she really does not have anything to hide. If the last few dates of her tour were THAT big of a disaster to warrant a "cover up" then the media would have reported on it like they did with Gaga and Peru and other dates in Latin America. It is impressive that Gaga's attendance will rival Madonna, but she will have played almost twice the amount of dates as well, so it almost evens out the fact that Madonna played to mostly stadiums in Europe (in North America she played all arenas except Yankee Stadium and Plains of Abraham). It's not really fair to compare the two tours at all though because as you stated in your post they are in two completely different stages and it doesn't help Gaga's case at all. The BTWB has done extremely well and she is setting herself up to become a major touring force in the music industry! I just wonder why it was so difficult to release four extra dates at the same time as the others. Her tour's over and has been for nearly a month, so how much longer is it going to take for these results to come through? And no, I don't think the fact that Gaga played more dates evens things up at all. It's not how many dates you play, it's how big your audience is and how much money you charge per ticket. Madonna only has high attendances because her tours heavily focus on stadiums which hold more people and she grosses hundreds of millions with less than 100 dates because her tickets are absurdly over-priced. Gaga mostly plays at arenas and charges an average amount for tickets, so the fact she plays over 100 dates per tour doesn't mean that she'll rival Madonna's shows. Madonna made $407 million and had 3.5 million spectators with her last tour even though she only had 85 dates because 75% of those dates were stadiums so that equals more money and a bigger audience. Gaga's MB tour had 201 dates, but because they were 99% arenas, she got considerably less money and 1 million less spectators. So, by rights, with far more stadiums than Gaga, Madonna should have higher attendance figures. As it is, by the end of Gaga's tour, they'll actually be evenly matched or Gaga will have that tiny bit more. My point is, Madonna's figures should be much higher, so the fact that she grossed more is neither here nor there. It just makes Madonna look bad for charging her fans more money. Well I think it's doing ok, but there's still a LOT of tickets available GV is highly available And there's only 5 seating section sold out.... I mean... It's not "BAD", since Tacome Dome is really big but it's still far from "great"

I'd say it will be 90% sold by Monday.
somechick 1
Really? Melbourne only held 12,000? Wow that seems like much less than the actual stadium usually holds. I mean I know seats were taken out for the stage but then GA was added. I'm surprised. Hmm none of the US shows I am going to are sold out yet? :o

My point is, Madonna's figures should be much higher, so the fact that she grossed more is neither here nor there. It just makes Madonna look bad for charging her fans more money. Think about it though....Madonna played mostly stadiums in Europe, but it's not like Gaga didn't play all arenas there (Stade de France, Twickenham, Aviva, Parken Stadium etc..), also they played a lot of the same arenas too (Palau Jordi, Ziggo Dome, etc..) then in North America they are both playing almost all arenas except Madonna had Yankee Stadium and Plains of Abraham. Gaga had the 2 South Africa stadium dates that Madonna didn't have, all of Asia/Australia that Madonna didn't touch and they both went on a Latin America leg that was exclusively stadiums (except Puerto Rico where Gaga did 2 arena dates). Yes Madonna pulled in less numbers than her previous tour but let's not act like Gaga didn't have more than enough opportunities to have far surpassed Madonna's attendance by now due to the Latin American leg. So yes I think it is fair to say that it evens things out because Gaga has played in many stadiums and same venues that Madonna has on this tour. Also, just because Madonna's tickets cost much more than Gaga's doesn't mean that they are overpriced. They are overpriced if people are not willing to pay for them, but seeing that she has been known for her high ticket prices and still manages to sell so many means that they are priced fairly. Just watch, if Gaga still manages to tour like she is for the next 10+ years she will be charging the exact same prices if not higher.

Hmm none of the US shows I am going to are sold out yet? :o Rod Laver Arena is a small arena and the Big Stage + Pit made the whole thing look like a small venue, remember it's not just about GA tickets being cut but also the bigger the space the stage takes in the GA the more Side Seating tickets will have to be cut because of visibility Edited January 12, 2013 by TheMadridHash
