Jjang 2,262
So 168 million is the final number? Good progress but kind of disappointing after the hype of the Asian and European leg.
Griffin 6
She played for 3,000 more people, not 5k in Dublin. Madonna played in Copenhagen for 2,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Madonna played in Amsterdam for 3,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Madonna played in Paris for 8,000 less than Gaga but gross $1 million more. Madonna played in Mexico City for 45,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Madonna played in Buenos Aires for 44,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Madonna played in Sao Paulo for 42,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Madonna played in Vancouver for 3,000 people less than Gaga but gross $2 million more. Madonna played in San Jose for 14,000 people more than Gaga at the same venue. Your comment was useless and I can give you a lot more exemple like that. In every places both played Madonna was more succesfull by the attendance or the gross revenue. Please tell me you realise that the bolded ones are because of double dates. Also, due to stage size being different and the runways being of different length + shape, it's hard to tell if one actually sold out whilst the other didn't. If there are 100 seats in a venue and one stage takes up 30 of those seats and the other takes up 50, the numbers will be different but both will be sell outs. It's important to note that sell out + full house are different things.
Pop Muse Tumblr 1
Both had tickets reduction during her tours, but look at some other gross numbers, even if Madonna and Gaga had discounts, the difference between average tickets price, attendance and gross revenue are VERY big : Madonna Lady Gaga Foro Sol, Mexico City Foro Sol, Mexico City 84,382 / 84,382 (100%) 37,260 / 37,260 (100%) $11,586,745 $2,666,769 $137 $71 Madonna Lady Gaga Estadio Atanasio Girardot, Colombia Estadio Nemesio Camacho 90,018 / 90,018 (100%) 30,546 / 36,335 (84%) $14,741,104 $2,465,994 $163 $80,7 Madonna Lady Gaga Parque dos Atletas, Rio de Janeiro Parque dos Atletas, Rio de Janeiro 34,709 / 34,709 (100%) 26,167 / 26,167 (100%) $4,332,428 $2,218,846 $124 $84 Madonna Lady Gaga Estadio River Plate, Buenos Aires Estadio River Plate, Buenos Aires 89,226 / 89,226 (100%) 45,007 / 45,007 (100%) $10,820,041 $3,988,565 $121 $88 By country Madonna Lady Gaga Brazil Brazil 162,488 / 162,488 69,304 / 69,304 (100%) $20,341,296 $6,512,705 $125 $93 Madonna Lady Gaga Argentina Argentina 137,359 / 137,359 (100%) 45,007 / 45,007 (100%) $16,386,434 $3,988,565 $120 $88 By continent Madonna Lady gaga Europe (33 shows) Europe (33 shows) 982,610 / 982,610 (100%) 609,152 / 609,152 (100%) $115,795,450 $60,248,445 $117 $98 OMG at brazil's total gross gaga must regret that rio tattoo now sydney and melbourne grossed $7-8 million EACH. the floor tickets were ONLY $AUD 170-180 (which is exactly the same in USD). what kinda floppy high ticket prices in brazil?!? just desserts for low gross. Klou 2,414
So 168 million is the final number? Good progress but kind of disappointing after the hype of the Asian and European leg. No, we never got the numbers for the last few US dates.
craig 680
I agree. And Madonna fans claim Billboard is a pro-Gaga because they always report sold-out shows. Do they know it's the same thing with Madonna ? And Madonna didn't sell-out all of her shows ! Only five or six shows were really sold-out for the European leg. Her tour was a fiasco in some countries (like Sweden, Belgium, France...). She used discount and free tickets for Edinburgh, Nice, Gothenburg, etc and RIO DE JANEIRO. Then, if Billboard is a pro-Gaga, it's probably a pro-Madonna too. Both are with Live Nation, who no doubt use the same policies and tricks for both artists. Just like all the whining about the Amazon discount, Madonna bundled ticked with the tour in the US, and experienced the largest percentage decline in sales from 1st to 2nd week in album history. Basically Gaga is bigger in Asia and Australia. Madonna is bigger in Latin America. Both were hurt by Recession in Europe (which is worst there). Madonna had her best marketing in North America (Superbowl), while Gaga had her worst (no dates until months after the album campaign). M will never have an event like that again, and G will never tour so much after an album again. Edited May 7, 2013 by craig
Pop Muse Tumblr 1
But the cities in Australia are bigger than the cities in Norway :) Big cities + high HDI make the sucess much easier! face it, because of our high HDI and better consumer protection laws, our ticket prices are a lot more reasonable, thus no need for 2-for-1 sales like in brazil and higher gross. latin american (and some asian) concert promoters need to know that "milking it" can actually backfire (i.e. every city with $300-$500 tickets other than hong kong, tokyo, singapore, taiwan and moscow). it seems to me that it is in the countries with the lowest HDI that have the most outrageously expensive ticket prices. i don't even think shipping costs are the main contributing factor. look at australia. our ticket prices are quite high for the developed western world because we are so far from everything and we haven't had a recession in 20 years. but we don't charge $300-$500 for general admission for a concert by one of the biggest pop stars in the world. $300-$500 tickets in australia are for oldies with reserved seats on the floor (in the first few rows), for nostalgia acts like fleetwood mac, the eagles, etc. Both are with Live Nation, who no doubt use the same policies and tricks for both artists. Der Meister 3,000
People, first of all: for those who are complaining about Gaga not selling tickets in Brazil for you a suggest moving there, finding a job and try to buy a Gaga ticket with your 300 dollars MONTHLY wage. Yes, people actually get paid 300 dollars per month in there, and no things are not cheaper. I also know people who financed their tickets to attend Lady Gaga's concert. So, I think you should learn about 3rd world countries economy before talking about it. Madonna is lucky because her public are adults and yes they afford their own tickets. Radio Radio 0
why still people comparing madonna's to gaga's numbers ? it's like comparing u2/rolling stones's numbers to coldplay's ones.. people need really to understand that madonna is no longer playing with younger pop stars even if gaga is by far nearest to madonna than all perry/rihanna of this world. let's be honnest, gaga brought some incredible numbers with the born this way ball Edited May 9, 2013 by Pyromane
