Just out of curiosity no shade:

Why do some people call it the scientific name instead of just coronavirus? I know it's correct but nobody says 'rhinovirus' instead of 'a cold' for example :laughga:

Thats how most viruses are spread regardless. It's scary when you think about it though.

Some experts are thinking this could go airborne too. But that still has to be fully tested and confirmed..

I'd say it's because coronavirus has a lot of stigma attached to it? I know Asians are being targeted by racists over the virus.

Yeah I said that, but I wondered why they do it with coronavirus and not rhinovirus (common cold) :neyde:

I personally did it because it's shorter and makes it easier to read more of the title.

Also.. "coronavirus" is just as scientific as influenza. Many types of influenza actually have many scientific names just like COVID-19. :poot:

coronaviruses are a large family of viruses so to differentiate between them they name them. The one that originated from Wuhan is COVID-19. Also before giving it a name it was referred to as "novel coronvirus" since it was a new type that they hadn't named before
