Justin Timberlake's Mirrors enters the HOT 100 chart at #24, while One Direction's newly released single debuts at #45. And speaking of debuts, P!nk's Just Give Me A Reason finally enters the HOT 100 chart at #84. Rooting for P!nk on this one in the long run.

I'd give it a couple of weeks, or even a month, for the uproar to calm down a bit with regard to the changes made by Billboard in its formula for the HOT 100 chart. As I've previously stated, YouTube views does somehow conveys the public what's hot at the moment, what's hot in a particular time period, and with the shift of the GP in listening to their favourite music (and watching their favourite music videos) from traditional mediums such as MTV to today's YouTube / VEVO in recent years, particularly the young demographics who heavily influence pop culture in general, the inclusion of YouTube to the HOT 100 chart is more than fitting if we're here to gauge the hot songs in a particular period. Doesn't it? Have it not been HS that benefits this change, will the reaction not be that hostile?

From what I've read, most people here seem to believe that Youtube views should be incorporated. It's just that Billboard is being idiotic in how they calculate it's inclusion.

If you read back a page or two, Magoo calculated that for a song to accomplish what HS has done under Billboard's new formula, it must have a 2.4 billion AI on the radio or sell over 3 million copies on iTunes. When you digest exactly how much weight Youtube views have been given, it's clear that the calculations are outright wrong.

Yes, I do understand that HS is an extreme case and this won't happen every week. But the problems that exist on this weeks chart will still be there on an average week. On a much smaller scale, yes, but still present.

Fair enough. It seems clearer to me that the contentious subject mater at hand is the out of proportion inclusion of YouTube views to the overall calculation of the HOT 100 chart, more than the inclusion of YouTube views per se. But then again, how exactly one would be able to explicitly distinguish the right proportion to the HOT 100 chart formula? Should Billboard weigh the sales even more than the radio impressions and streaming points? Is it not completely different to the YouTube views in the sense that mostly mainstream acts with huge fanbases are the ones who'd benefit on the further emphasis on sales in a weekly basis? As for radio, I'm more keen to lessen its influence since radio in general seems to be a dying medium with the continuous rise of the internet.

I finally listened to that Krewella song Nick was hyping up.

HOLY ****.

It's ****ing fantastic! I heard it on the radio, and when I looked up to see what song it was, I noticed it was the song Nick was hyping up but I had payed his posts about the song dust. SO GOING TO ROOT FOR THIS SONG. SO good. :excited2:

Nick, sis, I have got to pay more attention to what you post on here. :emma: I deserve to be stoned for having such a flawfree song at my disposal this entire time and not knowing it.

That's a good thing considering their sales weren't in sync with their position before.

This rule change is great for Gaga. In fact, it's good news for all of the pop girls as well as 1D and JB.

Gaga always generates massive buzz on Youtube. Even her least successful single with it's 10 minute long video broke records. It's very likely that her career so far would have been even more successful than it already was.

Bad Romance would have probably gone number one. Y&I, Judas, and Marry The Night all had successful videos that would have boosted it's chart position. The Telephone video was almost viral when it was released. I'm sure it could have helped her out then, too.

But her videos are not watched that much. (?)

If you count lyric videos and live performances, she does pretty well.

MTN video views were as good or better than sales and airplay of the song. Judas much better.

No need now to hold back the video for weeks (BTW, EoG) to goose sales when airplay is peaking.
