Sales don't equal quality, but they equal impact. Millions of people wouldn't spend their money on a song when they could if it for free unless they cared about it.

wow ok people saying that katy had impact i'm out :lmao:

and better yet, saying that her impact comes from her sales

It depends on how each of us defines "impact"

What is up with all of these wasted promo spots

She said she felt it was appropriate to perform a nominated song, instead of just using it as a platform for her record. I guess that's respectable, but still wasting promo for a single that is now two cycles old since '22' is starting to hit radio

Only new single thatll be performed by a pop girl tomorrow is Rihanna. im sure itll be good, but also probs boring

Most people perform songs they're nominated for when they perform at the Grammys if they aren't debuting new material. Like when gaga performed poker face in 2010

Do you think if Taylor perform Begin Again it will increase her album sales :?

she could perform A$$ and it'd still increase albums sales for Red.

It was her 12th single.

And ~49M isn't that bad for a Top 30 single when Ke$ha went #2 and barely has 33M on Vevo

Oh yeah her 12th. I was drunk last night :laughga:

YAS! S&S NEEDS to peak this week because this is the week where it can reach #2! It won't get to #1 but #2 is good enough for me. :excited2:

And people underestimate Katy's impact. I don't know about you, but I still here constant references to I Kissed A Girl. And Firework is showing amazing longevity always popping up in iTunes Top 200 and still gets a considerable amount of airplay for a single released 2 years ago. Not to mention, that it's basically synonymous now with the 4th of July and other firework related celebrations. It's undeniably made an impact. I think it's ignorant to believe that Gaga is the only pop star with influence since 2008. :rip:

Katy has made impact for sure. She's one of my least favorite out of the pop world simply because I don't care for her music (other than Teenage Dream, California Gurls, and E.T.) but she's done a great job of solidifying herself. And she's hit a great spot with the public considering the longevity and success of her hits.

Katy is bigger than anyone around here gives her credit for. Her single sales speak for themselves and her album sales are actually pretty good. Even her touring is a relative success.

While sales don't equate quality (though I LOVE her music as do most people) it does at least show that she is gigantic modern pop force.

I expect her to come back with something huge.

I've said this once and I'll say it again. Katy's career path is VERY similar to Madonna's. As stupid as that may sound, Madonna was the biggest pop star of her era in the 80's with her 2nd and third albums the same way Katy is arguably the biggest pop girl (with singles, radio presence, performances @ many award shows) during the TD era and part of the OOTB era. Like Madonna, Katy lacked respect from the GP, awards (Madonna had like 1 Grammy before she won 4 after ROL), and exceptional performance skills (Madonna was not that good in the 80's when it came to performing, she improved later) and both have rather weak voices. But the hits, the album sales, and the dominance was there. I have no doubt in my mind that if Katy can manage to branch out and gain some critical acclaim and experiment more, she can seriously have an amazing career under her belt. Her last tour did well, regardless of it's underwhelming gross, most of the shows still sold out so far from a flop or anything of that nature.

Madonna established herself as an unbeatable singles Queen before she decided to experiment, and I believe Katy is doing the same. Sometimes I wish Gaga did the same.
