US Charts Discussion (Gaga single tracking: August)

It's almost sealed that Thrift Shop would have one lengthy reign atop the HOT 100 chart with the lack of a serious contender to that top spot and Beyonce's not debuting a new single in the Super Bowl half-time show. Are there any expected huge releases coming soon that could make the top 10 more interesting?

If she gets sales of 650,000-700,000 and at least 30m AI

Oh well... I just hope the song sells a lot :)

Given the new chart rules, Part Of Me seems to be the last single to ever debut at #1 for a long time. Katy Perry is very lucky for that. I wonder if Billboard waited for her to release that single before changing the rules. Didn't they? :toofunny:

I think she can easily pull off 600,000-700,000 if she releases for a full week, she's a strong digital force and has a big fanbase. Since she's waiting until the tour is finished, she'll probably do a big media tour for her comeback.

To debut #1 she would need to release Wednesday else 2 days' airplay will likely cause a low debut for the previous week.

Agreed, it seemed no matter how huge one's digital sales in its first week, if it has already gained airplay within the week, then it'd most likely debut at a lower position. I think that happened to WANEGBT. Have it been released on a Wednesday, then it would surely debut at #1. On the other side, releasing on a midweek would take away days of availability in producing a strong opening week digital sales.

BB Hot 100 calculations for the week based on all 7 days of itunes bars, mediabase airplay and a streaming estimate

#position, sales (000's) + Mediabase airplay (A.I. millions) + streaming (Ks x 10%) = points, artist, song, (change on Hot 100)

#1 401 + 127 +171 = 55200 Macklemore & Lewis Thrift Shop (=)

#3 200 + 116 + 92 = 32800 will.i.am ft Britney S&S (+2)

#6 130 + 136 + 90 = 28700 Swedish House Mafia DYWC (=)

#11 84 + 85 + 86 = 19900 Calvin Harris fr Florence Sw. Nothing (+3)

:legend:

I never realized DYWC was already in the Top 10 of the Hot 100. :woot:

Wouldn't the best thing to do be to release the single digitally to iTunes on Monday and wait to have its radio debut on Wednesday? Like have radio deals and everything lined up for Wednesday and just not give the song to radio until Wednesday? Then she could get 7 days of airplay and 7 days of sales. Or is that not possible?

Grammys update - Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Sting will all be performing together. Must be opening?

Perhaps Rihanna opens with Stay, Bruno comes in and does something with Sting.

Beyonce confirmed to only be presenting.

Video news - Rihanna says 'Stay' video will be very "simple"

Risky/kinda boring single with a boring video? Shed better be careful.
