I don't think you NEED to be a song writer but it's always nice to have that personal touch. I mean, just because that artist didn't write it doesn't make it any less true but knowing that they took the time to write it is always nice.

Being a singer-songwriter does gives one an advantage, since the records they're making are unquestionably theirs. That alone somehow uplifts one's artistry, not only to themselves (as for a singer to be reassured that the songs he/she is singing comes from his/her own thoughts, from his/her own writing, it does in a way motivate them to further improve themselves, rather than just merely waiting for others to write for them) but also to the fans alike.

As music consumers, arguably most of us are more keen to support someone who spends more time and effort in working for the music releases we would ought to purchase. Why? Probably because they allotted, directly or indirectly, their own time and effort also for us, the consumers, compared to someone who just record the songs written for him/her and just release it.

Not to mention, once an artist sings a record which he/she has written, it does give the audience at least a glimpse of the thoughts, the emotions that artist is feeling at the moment, or at least felt during the time he/she has written the record, knowing that the lyrics they're singing not only comes literally from their mouths, but also more importantly from their hearts. Like you've said, it gives the record a personal touch. And it is where most likely a music consumer would turn into a fan.

I suppose. I care more about the music itself as opposed to whether it was written by the artist or not. Because there are some songs out there that were written by the artists that would of been MUCH better if song writers had been used and then there are just those that are amazing with the personal lyrics written by the artist. It goes both ways really. Who wrote the song is secondary to the actual quality of the song itself. Just because Britney didn't write Piece of Me doesn't mean what the songs say is any less true and it doesn't make me like the song any less. :music:

Agreed everything in this post. :tea:

Michael was very involved with his work but he actually didn't write a lot of the songs on Thriller.

Madonna wasn't that involved with her first 2 albums either.

Minimal exceptions versus (for example) Rihanna's entire discography.

Yeah, I guess it depends on people. I'm not saying it's 'bad'. But, as I said, that gives more respect to the artist and his integrity.

Or, in the case of Riri or Britney, the lack of involvement on their work makes people think they're only "tools" to make money, which it may not be that far from truth.

Anyway, Billboard seems to really love Gaga after all. She's featured on the latest article announcing the new Billboard.com.

* My main problem with Rihanna is NOT the fact that she uses song writers, it's just that the lyrics for Unapologetic were completely ABYSMAL. Like, for spending so much money on song writers and producers for an album, I would of thought that they would of written better lyrics. But, quite frankly, most lyrics to the songs are so repetitive and VILE that it just makes me question the quality of the people that work with Rihanna. Not only is her label milking her for all she's got, but her SONG WRITERS too and it's beginning to reflect in her work. Jump, Numb, Right Now, What Now, Pour It Up, Phresh Out the Runway all have HORRIBLE lyrics to them. Diamonds only survived because of Sia anyways.

IF she's going to use song writers, they might as well do a good job. Because I know Britney uses song writers all the time, but at least her songwriters are given TIME (more than just 10 months) to write her a decent song and come up with exceptional lyrics to a POP album. Can't say the same for Rihanna's team.

Isn't Dr. Luke screwed now, because Kesha and Britney are the only popgirls on his label that he's allowed to work with.

Look at the whole songwriting debate this way:

A personal skill of mine is to design pages. The pages I design are part of a larger publication that has many pre-determined elements to make the book consistent. Also, topics for the pages are already chosen for me and all the pictures used were taken by a professional photographer.

My job is to design this page using other peoples' work. It's my responsibility to allow the artistry of the photographers and elements designers to be represented through my design. I didn't create anything on the page, but merely connected to the images that other people took for me and used them to communicate thoughts, ideas, and emotions.

Even though nothing on the page was actually created by me, should the page design still be credited to me? The answer is yes. It was me who synthesized all of the information and created and unique layout. Maybe it wasn't with my work, but it wouldn't have turned out the same had I actually taken the pictures myself. I'm not a professional photographer, I'm a page designer. Therefore, I will let the photographer take pictures and they will let me design pages. Neither of us could switch roles, yet both of our jobs are needed to pull off a wonderful layout. At the end of the day, the layout is, in fact, mine. It just needed a team effort to create it.

FF took long time and the songs are flat and boring. Rihanna albums aren't that bad as you guys make it see

I don't mind if an artist doesn't write their songs. Having a talent for singing (or having a talent for being marketable :hehe: ) doesn't mean you also have a talent for writing. Two very different art forms.

Well, at least the comeback single of Justin Timberlake has already made history. Yay! S&T scores the highest debut of a male artist in the Pop Songs chart and the highest first-week plays with over 6000, surpassing Gaga's BTW, which got over over 4,600 plays on its debut week back in 2011.

And more good news, Home hits #1 in the Adult Contemporary chart, making Phillip Phillips the second American Idol contestant to do such feat with a debut single.

Anyway, I'm just wondering would an EP or a re-release help Ke$ha?

From earlier today, the NA leg of the tour is beginning to create some music -sales buzz in the US. Thats why she should wait till this leg is over before releasing anything.

She hasnt been here in awhile, a tour would help a great deal to get some fans hyped about her again

No. She needs to release another song and maybe it will have more success or move on to another album

Unapologetic is close to sell 2M WW :excited2:
