US Charts Discussion (Gaga single tracking: August)

The thing most impressive about Britney is that she's pulling her best chart performance, single-wise, in her latter years compared to her first four albums which all have huge album sales, both in the US and worldwide. She may no longer move millions of albums around the globe today, but she has debuted singles at the top for the past three years or so. And that's an advantage of a highly loyal fanbase.

I already know Gaga is gonna get heat for ARTPOP underselling BTW, but it's whatever. Her fans will know, hopefully, that it's not really Gaga's fault or under her control.

ARTPOP will be one of the best selling albums of the year. If not THE best selling album of the year. Unless we have another 21 situation where a new artist comes out randomly and slays us all unexpectedly. If 21 hadn't happened, Gaga wouldn't get so much **** for the BTW sales and era.

I'd rather prefer ARTPOP to have multi-platinum singles comparable to The Fame / TFM than an album sales comparable to BTW.

It should be #1 for the year, depending on surprise releases.

She'll face stiff competition from Eminem though, if his expected release comes to fruition.

Album sales say a lot more than single sales. I'd rather her have BTW's album sales over TFM's single sales any day, but it'll end up being the other way around. (Or the entire era could flop for all we know lol)

I think she should aim for three hit singles. By hit single, I mean Top 10's. Something comparable to Rihanna's LOUD singles. Three #1's but all sold about 3 million in the US. Gaga can easily score that next era and I would happy.

I still believe ARTPOP can sell-out BTW's US and WW sales.

I want Natalie to be a single!

YAS! one of my faves. so catchy.

He better release that "gold-diggin' b**ch.

"A little less conversation and a little more touch my body."

I want at least one #1 this era. Hopefully the debut. If she could snag another, that would be great. A few hit singles, some good longevity is all I really ask for. Even if we get a Try situation, where the song does decently in sales/radio but fails to crack the BB Top 10, I'd be perfect fine with that. The gurl just has to put out some good music. In the end, that's all that matters.

With a strong lead single, Gaga will be fine. I just can't believe people here think it will debut at over 1 million

Harking back to the popularity argument, Born This Way obviously helped advance Gaga's career. She may not sell as many albums as Taylor or Adele, but her tour recites speak for themselves. Touring is the most indicative sign of true popularity. People around the world aren't going to shell out hundreds of dollars to see any other modern pop star the way they will Gaga. Her perfume and ticket sales are making far more money and impact than anyone's single/album sales, but she does great there too!

People around here are so quick to discredit all she's achieved. TFM Gaga couldn't have filled the Stade De France.

This, this, this.

I guess, but the Monster Ball grossed over 200M as well as the BTWB. If anything, she held steady touring wise.

We dont know for sure that she couldnt sell out stadiums during TFM because she didnt try

Yea, but TBTWB has almost half the dates that TMB had

I think BTW cemented in respect for her vocal talent anyway, which is good..

We're all familiar with my views on the era so I'm not going to say much lol

I meant music sales not touring

i don't know your views, could you elaborate? lol

Adele's weakest at touring, way below Katy and Rihanna in tour earnings, let alone T Swift.

She's not a good bet for a strong floow-up era either.

that surprises me tbh

I'm hoping for 2 #1's

The lead single is guaranteed with a combined massive 1st week sales and massive 1st week airplay

And then another song could go #1 hopefully.

That really puts things into perspective. So I guess this proves that Rihanna's 'huge' #1 hits are largely, if not mainly, driven by radio, huh?

Like I said, 20 million total sales from ARTPOP would satisfy me. Hopefully she'll be able to bag a few hits while keeping her prominence as an albums artist.

I am really starting to get a feeling that the US is ready to embrace her again. People on my Facebook news feed were even saying positive things about her last night which is really strange. I think ARTPOP will be a fresh start for her. If the music is good I believe that she'll be embraced with open arms.
