Tommymonster44 0
Sure you can, an icon of the American music industry, although I think this "icon" status is terribly ambiguous and abstract and I wouldn't use it in any serious manner. Anyway, when you become this "icon" of the American music industry, at the same time you have cemented your status in the global market as well, even if you didn't really gain any chart success outside America. You made it in America and that's enough, you became somebody in other parts of the world as well. Plenty of examples of American acts that are able to tour the whole world despite the lack of international chart success. Doesn't work the other way though. I disagree. This may have been true in past decades, but I feel like you need more than the US market to be a long-term musical legend these days. The problem with only relying on one market is that one false move can end your career. This doesn't occur if you have several different markets under your belt. For instance, had Gaga only been relevant in Europe when she released You and I, that probably would have been an huge embarrassment. However, she had the US market to back her up. When she released Marry The Night, the opposite was true. People forget that Marry the Night wasn't a complete flop in markets like the UK. I feel that being slightly relevant in a mass amount of different markets is a more favorable position than being on top of 1 market. Not to rain on Taylor's success, though, because she's obviously a force to be reckoned with and is a huge pop power player
Mills 446
At least C'Mon is slowly gaining airplay impressions. By the time the radio finally pushes it, Ke$ha could easily have another top ten hit on her hands. I doubt RCA would just let the streak end without giving a good fight. The top ten streak is her sole biggest achievement so far.

The top ten streak is her sole biggest achievement so far. Anything Could Happen has been in the top 50 on iTunes with around 10AI. C'mon should be higher than that if it's going to be a hit. If she comes out with an amazing video or has some incredible performance, maybe, but I highly doubt that from her.

Klou 2,414
Exactly my point lol Actually, if radio wh*res the song out even if sales are low, it could still go top 10. Don't Wake Me Up and Let Me Love You both went top 10 even though their digital sales never were in the top 10 (both incredibly undeserving songs IMO). Americano 31,061
I always read certifications and think like "Oh this song is 3x plat! Wow!!!" .... 3 million out of like 300 million people in the US. Music has moved onto Youtube, streaming, and free (sometimes illegal) sharing. Billboard needs to stop weighing radio so much (and sales, which theyve begun)

Billboard needs to stop weighing radio so much (and sales, which theyve begun) The rule earlier this year did incorporate more streaming, but in the process it made radio the dominating factor. They need to dial radio down the most and up the streaming factor.

Mills 446
After months of waiting, finally, Ellie Goulding's Anything Could Happen hit #1... in the Dance Songs chart. I'm literally still hoping that anything could happen. I'd be happy if she reached at least top 30 of the HOT 100 chart. The song deserves more success than it actually gets. As for ARTPOP, the lead single would surely slay the charts. And if the lead single is really good in terms of the GP's taste, then I can see no problem for the succeeding singles not to slay as well.
Sexxx 5,647
Someone make this happen :derpri: Praying that Gaga doesn't have sloppy release dates for the singles in ARTPOP.
