US Charts Discussion (Gaga single tracking: August)

ok, so far, I predict 500K for ARTPOP. But it can go higher depending on the hype during that time.

Maybe if the lead single flopped, and Gaga and her team were lazy with promo and sales tactics.

If you have a fanbase and can sell albums, the trend is increasingly for front loaded sales.

You won't see a Fame or Teenage Dream sales pattern, with slow start but steady sales

JT team has targeted this era at young adults/adults aka ppl who still bother to buy albums. the promo spots, the imagery, the music, the videos.

lots of grammys in the bag imo

I agree his team knows what they're doing.

In other words, his old fans. The people who once bought 2 million copies of boy band product in a week.

Who needs new fans, or ever outstanding music, when you can tap that?

Agreed.

Britney. Her last album with longevity was BOMT and maybe Oops!. The rest sold the most within 2 mos. of release.

yeah. That is what suppose to happen always.

If Katy can pull large figure for her next album's 1st week sales, then I'll conclude she already has, not only a big, but also a solid fanbase.

I can see why Riri can't have a great first week sales in all of her albums, her fanbase, at least in the US, isn't solid. But well, the GP are always on her side relatively. If they like what they're hearing from her, they'll buy her album. That's why she can have steady sales every week.

what is weird is that FF didn't have a great week-opening sales yet it didn't have steady sales despite of the success of the lead single and despite of the success of its post-album singles (considering her high standards).

A lot of fans on this site prepare themselves for disappointment by aiming low for ARTPOP. As longs as it's good, I can guarantee we'll get some good debut numbers.

FF was actually damaged with promotion. Ironically, after the atrocious GMA and Jimmy Kimmel performances the album had been predicted to sell around 350K and then it projections were lowered to 300K. :rip: I'm convinced that if Britney didn't promote at all that more people would of bought the album, because, quite frankly, seeing those performances in no way would convince me to listen to the album but rather ignore it. So, if Britney can't improve her performing skills, I'd rather she not promote at all.

And then obviously singles no longer sell albums. I think it's a recurring theme that singles do terrible and an album sells well or vice versa so the fact that FF had 3 big radio hits didn't really affect its sales. Or perhaps it was just the fact that they were too generic. The only time the GP seems to react well to singles and buy the album as a result of their liking the single is when it's a really experimental song or different from what the artists usually releases or different from what's playing on radio. In other words, the only time singles really help the album is when it's a distinctive single, but if it's generic radio fodder like the FF singles, I don't see much happening for the album.

Oh, I can see already where did Kesha get her inspiration.

jk. So Brit shouldn't do any live performance anymore. :toofloppy:

Maybe it's also the reason why her FF tour didn't performed great.

I don't understand why Ke$ha is flopping so badly. It's not even like she has competition from Gaga or Katy this time around. She and Rihanna should be dominating, but she's like nowhere. Animal/Cannibal era she was everywhere, and now she's nowhere to be found lol. Her and Xtina need to go to some motivation seminar and get their ****ing priorities straight.

Thank God she's stayed away from award shows since 2007  (BBMA 2011 shouldn't even count, that was more of a guest appearance). It would be a mess.

3. Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man 0.6666

if triple 6 means more than bad luck, I wonder how tragic is the number above. :ohno::wtf:

The battle for the best-selling album of 2013 will be between JT, Gaga and Eminem most likely. I can't wait to see how ARTPOP will be promoted :) Maybe Katy surprises everyone and pulls out great album numbers, too. Honestly I'm really excited for Katy's new album
