PatrickMonster 6,517
Has a 5th single ever gone to #1? I'd assume it's been a loooong time if so. Bad is the last one I can recall. Katy doesnt count. That song went to #2 IMO. Thrift Shop is a 5th single, and went No.1, so I guess not that long time :hehe:
craig 680
So, quite frankly, since they both will most likely find themselves in similar situations (releasing more commercial music IN COMPARISON to the singles from their previous records, but still relatively risky in comparison to what is popular at the moment). And I predict that Beyonce will outsell Gaga. Especially now with her injury and all, Gaga might just promote less. On Four, Beyonce just released commercial music that was behind the times, but it pleased a lot of her fans. I don't see Gaga half assing the promo - if she's injured she'll wait till she heals or do less dancing. Bey will only beat Gaga is she has Sasha Fierce like killer lead singles, while Gaga's flop. Luc 4,775
Only thing that can outsell Gaga is a new Adele album or a debut album I think. I hope for 5 mil sales in the US and 12 mil WW. I'm a dreamer Anyways, imagine how Judas, Telephone and Alejandro would've charted if the hot 100 rule with youtube views already counted

I'm a dreamer Taylor and Katy are a threat to Gaga. They can outsell since they are generic as faq. 5M in the US? Not even The Fame managed that. But somehow 12M WW doesnt seem impossible to me. But I expect it to outdo BTW. Somewhere in the high 2mil to low 3mil US sounds reasonable to me. Maybe 10mil WW
Luc 4,775
5 mil is far too high. It probably won't outsell TF. But I expect it to outdo BTW. Somewhere in the high 2mil to low 3mil US sounds reasonable to me. Maybe 10mil WW But I believe that Gaga and Interscope by now know how to promote something good, look at the Fame perfume. I'm pretty sure 5 million sales are possible. I want a diamond certification for Gaga Taylor and Katy are a threat to Gaga. They can outsell since they are generic as faq. 5M in the US? Not even The Fame managed that. But somehow 12M WW doesnt seem impossible to me. Katy Perry... no, the target audience is probably still 4-13 year olds and these won't get you many sales. Taylor? Another album?! Rihanna 2.0 D: but no, I'm pretty sure people must be getting sick from Taylor Swift. No really, I think ARTPOP has a good chance to outsell TF. It's not an album like BTW which got released only like a year and a half after TFM, it's getting released 2 years after BTW, and she's had about 2 appearances in shows, interviews, etc. over the past year. I trust Gaga and I think that it will be better than The Fame in sales and better than TFM in music :
WarriorPrince 1
Katy Perry... no, the target audience is probably still 4-13 year olds and these won't get you many sales. Taylor? Another album?! Rihanna 2.0 D: but no, I'm pretty sure people must be getting sick from Taylor Swift. Katy has bigger adult chart peaks than Gaga during TD and she sold a lot more singles than Gaga if you compare BTW to TD, maybe even more than TFM in the US. Katy was the second biggest commercial sucess of 2011 but many fans tend to pretend that she wasnt really that successful. When i said Taylor i didnt mention she would have another album, i'm saying that Red or even one of her old albums will be probably more commercial sucessful than ARTPOP. And again, all of her Red songs have been smashing every pop girl, so people still are not sick to her music. Gaga is a digital selling force, but after BTW she lost big part of her commercial power to Katy, Taylor and Adele... Maybe even Rihanna. But she might get it back with ARTPOP, and i'm sure she will. Vanilla 664
The content of the album will reflect greatly on its commercial success. Yeah, superfans will buy the album but long term sales rely on the General Public. If she releases a ****ty first single, no one will care enough to buy it. I won't die, but I can't live without you

Also, I think that the first single has already been chosen anyways. DJWS tweeted a long time ago that the producer would surprise you. (perhaps fully produced by Gaga? Or that one Japanese producer that was mentioned some time ago in the ARTPOP discussion?)
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
Actually 21 and Red are pop albums. They can be compared. edit: in other fanbases point of view you could see BTW numbers in another way. 400K of it's 2.2M in the US were with a discount. Without it, it would be at 1.8M in the US. I'm talking single wise tho. Songs are remembered, albums are not unless they sell like crazy. :megaflop: since when, 21 is everything but not a pop album and just because Tay Tay decided to sell herself as a artist and and made the songs more generic Red is still counted as a country album well if we go that way than we shouldn't count Swift's pizza deal and Katy's countless discounts through the TE era gurl every single song on the BTW is everything but not mainstream and still Gaga managed to make 4 top 10 singles and with BTW people will remember the album not the song this was the biggest difference through the entire era Gaga was selling it as a whole not just a random songs but together in album and with the tour and the everything common she was always reflecting on the whole massage that the album explored and in few years people may forget all this samshes that are going now like IKYWT,WFL,CG,ET,LFN,POM,WNEGBT and probably won't remeber and Judas,Y&I,MTN but they will remember the album BTW because the album's message was the important thing rather than getting those #1 It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
Is it really impossible to tell that ARTPOP would be gaga's thriller moment? Taylor and Katy are a threat to Gaga. Taylor is US artist while Gaga is WW artist....see the difference? While BTW has 2.2 US sales and RED is outselling in it like doubled times more if we compare their WW sales we'll see that all RED's sells came from the US while BTW is 7+ WW no one in the world care about Taylor and that's why she isn't doing WW tours but only in the US and Canada. Gaga is global phenomen while Taylor only relay on the US market ;) It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
jayvee_pikachu 0
Is it really impossible to tell that ARTPOP would be gaga's thriller moment? Or an album that would sell 5m copies in the US alone and 25m worldwide in its first year of release. Pressed? Gaga might have a decent success with non generic songs. But i'm talking about commercial success in numbers. Stop bringing other things that i'm not talking about plz. 2. Honey... Red and 21 are pop albums. They have huge audiences. That's what it means for an album to be pop. Pop=Popular Yes there is pop genre... And they are still pop. If they are a huge success single wise and album wise they are pop. 3. Red is close to outselling Born This Way WW. Red is selling like crazy. You know after being a long time on ATRL you seem to notice that not everything related to Gaga's sales are great.
